Sisters man goes
missing at Suttle Lake
A search is ongoing for
33-year-old Sisters resi-
dent Ben Hendrickson, who
was reported missing from
the Blue Bay Campground
near Suttle Lake on Sunday
afternoon. He has not been
seen since late Saturday
night, according to Jefferson
County Sheriff ’s Office
reports.
When Jefferson County
deputies responded to a miss-
ing person’s report, they
found that Hendrickson’s
vehicle and camping equip-
ment were still at the camp-
ground and he had not been
home or to any places he
normally frequents. Both the
Jefferson County Search and
Rescue Team and Deschutes
County Search and Rescue
Teams performed a hasty
search of the area on both
land and water Sunday until
darkness set in but were
unsuccessful in locating Ben.
On Monday, SAR teams
continued searching for
Hendrickson on both land
and water. They performed
a very detailed search of the
area and did not locate him.
It is difficult to get lost on
land at Suttle Lake due to
the lake being surrounded by
paved roads. Ben was said to
be in good physical condition
and wasn’t believed to have
gone on a late-night hike,
though that is possible. Ben’s
kayak and some personal
property was located on the
first day of searching east of
the campground along the
south side shoreline. These
items were found a distance
apart.
Ben’s cell phone is miss-
ing and has been off since
Saturday night and was not
useful in obtaining any GPS
data. A dive rescue team with
side scan sonar equipment
has been requested but their
availability at this point is
unknown, Jefferson County
authorities reported.
