EUGENE (AP) — A
44-year-old Oregon man has
been sentenced to two years
in federal prison for scam-
ming 91 eBay customers out
of more than $189,000.
But The Bend Bulletin
reports that before Erik
William Johnson spends time
behind bars, he’ll be allowed
to finish his studies at
Central Oregon Community
College.
U.S. District Court Judge
Ann Aiken ordered Johnson
remain out of custody until
September 2018.
Johnson pleaded guilty
to money laundering. He
launched his eBay scheme
over a three-week period in
June 2011. Court records
show he received nearly
$190,000 in payments, but
only shipped $5,245 worth of
Nikon and Canon cameras to
customers.
He used the money to
buy a 2006 Hummer H2
sport utility vehicle, a 2006
Volkswagen Beetle and a
Breitling Aeromarine Super
Avenger watch.
Council workshop that resi-
dential development so far
in 2017 is very active. More
zoning and building permits
have been issued in the first
six months of this year than
were issued in all of 2016.
The number is already dou-
ble the total for 2015. There
are currently 13 land-use
applications in the hopper.
Three companies with active
site plans in the North Sisters
Business Park would like to
begin construction as soon as
possible.
• Sisters City Council
approved the recommenda-
tion of the Parks Advisory
Board to name the stage at
Fir Street Park “Songbird
Stage.” The metal artwork
mounted on the back wall of
the stage, designed by local
artist Paul Allen Bennett,
depicts a tree full of song-
birds, signifying the impor-
tance of music and nature in
our community. Metal letters
spelling out the stage name
will be placed above the tree.
• L a s t w e e k ’s C i t y
Council meeting was the first
for new City Manager Brant
attitudes. He had also done
an interview with Bend radio
KBND and plans to do so
every few months to keep the
public informed about hap-
penings in Sisters. Kucera
was invited by the local
VFW chapter to participate
in taking down the American
flags around town while
they gave him a tour of the
town.
• Coming down the pike
this fall will be a new vision-
ing process to create the
Sisters Country 2040 Vision.
The last one was completed
10 years ago, and many proj-
ects and goals identified at
that time have been com-
pleted. Sisters is a rapidly
growing community, and
the time has come to update
the community’s vision for
the future to best guide that
growth. The update will set
new goals and a specific,
measurable action plan so
the community can assess
how the vision is being
implemented.
A variety of stakehold-
ers will be involved in the
process including all major
community organizations
– Sisters School District,
Chamber of Commerce,
EDCO, Sisters-Camp
Sherman Fire Department,
SPRD, Citizen4Community
and other formal and infor-
mal community groups.
Citizens within the city lim-
its as well as Sisters Country
residents outside the city
limits will be encouraged to
participate. The visioning
process will be conducted by
a professional consultant and
will provide a good forum
for healthy civic engage-
ment. The completed docu-
ment will not be regulatory
but rather a vision statement
with goals and objectives and
an action plan to bring it to
life.
• The work being done
on the Highway 20 median
extending from the round-
about out to Railway Avenue
is being done at night. The
streetlights for the round-
about are installed and ready
to go as soon as Central
Electric Cooperative pro-
vides the power. Final pav-
ing will be done to smooth
out the dips and uneven
pavement in the highway.
When the roundabout work
is complete, ODOT will
conduct a speed zone study
to determine the proper
speed for approaching
and traveling through the
roundabout.
