warm summer evening on the
lawn; great views; kids hav-
ing a good time — we love
playing there.”

The fire camp at Sisters Rodeo Grounds will demobilize as the Sheep Springs Fire winds down.
FIRE: Terrain required
indirect firefighting
tactics
Continued from page 1
lines. By using existing
roads, fire officials reduced
firefighters’ risk from snags.
The Sheep Springs Fire,
burning in an area previously
burned by the B & B Fire in
2003, is located in an area
predominantly covered in
snags, which are often struc-
turally weakened and pose a
serious hazard for fire per-
sonnel. Due to the extremely
hazardous nature of the inci-
dent’s location, Deschutes
National Forest leadership
and fire officials imple-
mented indirect firefighting
tactics that provide for fire-
fighter and public safety.
The fire, a result of two
lightning-struck trees, is
burning approximately 20
miles northwest of Sisters
in the Brush Creek drainage
less than a mile northeast of
Sheep Springs Campground
and roughly a half mile west
of Forest Road 12. The fire is
approximately 700 acres and
will continue to put up smoke
as fire continues to progress
on the interior of the fire
perimeter.

“When we started 27 years ago
advertising in Th e Nugget newspaper,
it was the best way to reach our local
market and visitors.
Now, even though we’re on the
Internet, Yelp, Trip Advisor, social
media, etc., we still fi nd Th e Nugget
to be the best way to connect with
locals and visitors.
Our business has changed over the
years from a bike/ski/tennis shop to
include a food cart and beer garden
with live music and events. Th e
Nugget ad rep found unique ways to support us by suggesting new ideas for
diff erent kinds of ads, events calendar, stories and their other publications: Th e
Sisters Oregon Guide and Discover: Insider’s Guide to Sisters.
Th e designers are top-notch and keep my look current -- never stale. I feel like
I have an ad agency at my disposal that comes up with great ideas and concepts,
so that I don’t have to.
During the recession and two years when it didn’t snow, we looked to cut costs
every way we could. We never thought of taking our weekly ads out of Th e
Nugget because they work and remind people of our presence.
