Lawsuit:
County
didn’t follow
promotion
rules for
veterans
Sisters salutes...
BEND (AP) — A deputy
contending the Deschutes
County Sheriff’s Office vio-
lated an Oregon law man-
dating that veterans be given
preference when applying for
a promotion in a civil service
position has filed a lawsuit
seeking $500,000.
The Bulletin reports that
Ronnie Dozier filed the law-
suit Monday, June 12.
The lawsuit says that
Dozier in March 2015 applied
for an open patrol lieutenant
position but wasn’t invited to
participate in the promotion
process.
The lawsuit says the same
thing occurred in March 2016.
The lawsuit also contends
that former Capt. Scott Beard
ordered a lieutenant not to
allow Dozier to participate
in the 2015 process because
of the captain’s dishonorable
discharge from the U.S. Navy.
Beard is also named in the
lawsuit. He was sentenced
to five years in prison last
fall for stealing more than
$200,000 from the county and
using the funds to buy gifts
for an ex-colleague.
• Former Outlaws base-
ball player Joey Morgan is
continuing his stellar career
as a catcher. According to a
report in the Seattle Times,
Morgan was selected in the
third round (No. 95 over-
all) of the MLB draft by
the Detroit Tigers. Morgan
led the Huskies with a .324
batting average in 2017,
with five home runs and 45
RBI in 53 games. In April,
Morgan was named the top
catcher in college base-
ball by the website www.
D1baseball.com.

ally amazed and delighted at
how this community comes
together to support the
world’s largest outdoor quilt
show.
We extend our deep-
est gratitude to Kris Calvin

negotiated with Kris to use
the offices and workshop
space of Earthwood Timber

for take-in, processing, and
deployment of more than
1,300 quilts for our event
Kris, who has supported
the community in many
ways over the years, asked
that SOQS not pay rent to
him, but instead make a
donation for the amount of
rent to Sisters Trails Alliance
(STA). SOQS was pleased
to donate $1,000 to STA for
this purpose. We cheer Kris
for creating this win-win-
win for our community!

Joey Morgan was a standout catcher for SHS, and he has continued to
shine. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers last week.
World, I’d like to give an
enthusiastic nod to Heart of
Oregon Youth Build.
These young people and
their passionate mentors
help Sisters Rodeo in so
many ways, from construc-
tion to clean-up. They’re
always happy and seem
to really enjoy the work. I
was especially impressed
by their honesty and integ-
rity. Lost and Found has
so many items they find,
including cash. Every day,
when I checked the found
items, I smiled over what

JJ Harrison spoke with
these youth during their
Slack clean-up duties. The
exchanges between him
and these kids brought
tears to my eyes. He was so
inspired by how they really
listened to his message. I
think everyone involved that
morning came away a better
person.
I am so grateful that we
have Youth Build right here
