City to host barbecue
for local citizens

hangs at Ranch Lodge
The internationally exhib-
ited Bend artist Marjorie
Wood Hamlin will exhibit
her work at the Lodge at
Black Butte Ranch through
June 29. Her work is in
homes throughout Central
Oregon from Black Butte
Ranch to Sunriver, as well as
Portland and Lake Oswego.
Wood Hamlin has cre-
ated her own style, push-
ing the envelope of innova-
tion to make new sensations
for the eye of the beholder.
New techniques with copper
and gold foil and 23K gold
leaf and bold colors in her
landscapes are popular with
her collectors. It is her phi-
losophy that true creativity
makes something new rather
than copies previous styles.
Her work graces corporate
offices and the homes of cli-
ents throughout the United
States.
Her paintings have been
in exhibits throughout the
western United States, New
York, Spain and Florence,
Italy where she won the rec-
ognition of the international
jury of the Contemporary
Biennale. Her environmental
paintings video was shown in
Granada and Almeria Spain
as well as the United Nations
with the Women’s Caucus
for Art for International
Women’s Month.
Marjorie has a BA with
a major in applied art and
art history from Willamette
University. She also stud-
ied at San Francisco State
University, Academy of Art
San Francisco and Stanford
University in Venice Italy.

Sisters City Hall parking
lot will be the scene of the
first-ever City Hall barbecue
on Thursday, June 22, 4:30 to
6:30 p.m.
All Sisters-area residents
are invited to join in the festiv-
ities and meet their five City
Councilors, the City staff, and
special guest Brant Kucera,
Sisters’ new city manager,
who will be taking over the
reins at City Hall in early July.
There will be free food for
everyone including hamburg-
ers, hot dogs, and the fixings.
Live music will be pro-
vided by The Anvil Blasters.
The barbecue has been
organized after a sugges-
tion from Councilor Richard
Esterman to promote outreach
to the community by City Hall
and the Council. Esterman is
well-versed in staging events
with his Central Oregon
Shows, which sponsors a
number of public events in
Sisters every year, including
last week’s Sisters Art in the
Park.

Ham operators to
convene in Sisters
The High Desert Amateur
Radio Group (HIDARG) is
participating in the annual
American Radio Relay
League (ARRL) Field Day
June 24-25.
The annual event brings
amateur radio operators and
clubs together nationwide, and
is an opportunity for amateur
operators to practice the quick
set-up of a communications
post. It also involves a compe-
tition to see which station can
make the most contacts on the
air.
Visitors will have an
opportunity to operate a radio
and try to make a distant con-
tact, and will be instructed
in how to obtain a ham radio
license. The public is welcome
Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.,
and Sunday 8 to 11 a.m.
In Sisters, head south on
Elm Street (it becomes Three
Creek Road). Travel 11 miles
and turn into the paved park-
ing area at Upper Three Creek
Sno-Park. HIDARG will be
easy to spot: look for the long
wire antennas high in the trees.

Obituary
Elizabeth Patterdon
April 14, 1930 — June 4, 2017
Liz was born in
Oakland, California, on
April 14, 1930, to Claude
and Elizabeth Chaplin.
After high school, Liz went
to art school to become a
commercial dress designer.
While in art school she
met and married Jack
Keith. They had one child,
Elizabeth (Betsy). Two
years later, Jack died. She
later married Earl Bates.
Liz, Earl, and Betsy
moved to Sisters in the late
1970s. Liz dearly loved the
big pine trees and moun-
tains. She hiked and cross-
country skied the areas
around Sisters. Liz’s only
child, Betsy, died in 1982.
Earl died three years later,
and her mother died in
1986. She later met Ralph
Patterson; they married and
loved to travel the United
States. Ralph died in 2000.
Liz is survived by her
stepsons Dennis and Mike
Patterson, and long-time
friends Becky Hartford and
Judy Stubbs. Liz was a truly
amazing “lady.” She stayed
positive through everything
life dealt her. We will miss
her forever! Love you, Liz!
There will be a celebra-
tion of life at a later date. A
heartfelt thank-you to the
nurses that cared for Liz,
and their caring and com-
passion to us.
