Sisters Outlaws land eight on baseball all-league roster
By Rongi Yost
Correspondent
The varsity baseball squad
finished league play at the
top of the pack and had eight
players selected to all-league
teams. Junior Zach Morgan
took top honors and was
named Player of the Year and
Pitcher of the Year.
Morgan was a first-team
all-league pick at pitcher.
Zach was undefeated (6-0) on
mound in league play and had
an ERA of 1.2. Zach threw his
fastball in the low 80s and it
always overpowered batters.
He was equally impressive at
the plate, and finished league
with a .556 batting average.
“There’s no player in the
league that impacted the game
like Zach did from both the
mound and the plate,” said
Coach Steve Hodges. “He
could change the game with
one swing, and dominated on
the mound. He was an impact
player on both offense and
defense.”
Three addition Outlaws
were first-team all-league
selections.
Ryan Funk (senior) was
named first-team catcher, and
was definitely the best catcher
in the league. Funk finished
league with a .333 batting
average.
“Ryan blocks the ball so
well,” said Hodges. “He has
the ability to throw runners
out, and during league threw
out 12 runners. His pitchers
have faith in him.”
Christopher Luz (junior)
was a first-team infield selec-
tion. Luz played shortstop and
finished strong at the plate for
the Outlaws with a .414 bat-
ting average.
“Christopher really did
great the second half of the
season,” said Hodges. “He
really came on on offense,
and finished strong. He was
our most-improved offensive
player for sure.”
Jett Mingus (junior) was a
first-team outfield pick. Jett
played left field and batted
.310 for the Outlaws.
“Jett did a great job for us
in the field and on the mound,
but coaches really took notice
due to his key hits, especially
at critical times in the game,”
said Hodges.
Ryan Cook, Alec Gannon,
and Jake Larson were all sec-
ond-team all-league selections.
Cook (senior) was a sec-
ond-team pick at pitcher. Ryan
was 2-1 in league and had an
ERA of .53. Ryan also did
a good job at the plate and
finished with a .303 batting
average.
“Ryan is such a versatile
guy,” said Hodges. “He has
gap power, he’s a good dou-
bles guy, he can play outfield,
infield, and he can pitch. He’s
a total team guy. I can’t say
enough about his contributions
to the team.”
Gannon was selected sec-
ond-team infield. Alec plays
at second base and batted .356
during league.
Hodges commented, “Alec
added so much to our team.
He hits left-handed, and he
can bunt. He’s a stealing threat
every time he gets on base,
and he makes good decisions
on the bases. He’s an excellent
fielder, one of our smartest
players, and has a good head
for the game.”
Larson (senior) was a sec-
ond-team outfield pick. Jake

started at center field for the
past two years for the Outlaws,
and has a batting average of
.320.
“Jake is very consistent in
the outfield,” said Hodges.
“He does a good job of read-
ing the play, and gets a jump
on the ball.”
MADRAS
La PINE
JW Bertagna rounded out
the all-leaguers as first-base
honorable mention.
“JW is a good team guy,
is very humble, and always
makes everyone around him
better,” said Hodges. “He’s
done a solid job for us the past
two years.”
