Outlaws recognize seniors, close out season with losses
hit seven batters, in the sec-
ond game.
“They (Ling-Scott and
St. Clair) gave it their all,”
said Smith, the second-year
Outlaw coach.
Amanda Smith was one
of four seniors honored
on Senior Day. The others
were Savannah Ryan, Kylie
Steiner, and Brenda Isarraraz.
The losses to league
champion Junction City and
playoff-bound Sweet Home
dropped the Outlaws to 4-11
in Sky-Em League play and
7-14 overall. Both marks are
improvements over the 2016
season.
Sarah Hartford and
St. Clair were the lone
Outlaws to collect base hits in
the first game of the double-
header. In addition to Smith,
the Outlaws were missing two
other players due to injuries.
SHS hit the ball consis-
tently in the second game, but
the walks and 13 errors gave
Junction City ample opportu-
nities in the five-inning, run-
rule game.
In the second game, the
Outlaws got their runs in the
first inning when St. Clair
hit a line drive to right field
allowing Sophia Affatati to
score and in the fourth inning
when Emma Ransom scored
on a wild pitch.

Sisters High School’s var-
sity softball team closed out
the 2017 campaign by losing
its final three games and say-
ing farewell to its four seniors
on Senior Day.
Playing without all-league
pitcher Amanda Smith, the
Outlaws lost 23-0 and 21-2
to Junction City and 14-0 to
Sweet Home. Without Smith,
who was on the mound for
each of the Outlaws’ seven
victories this season, SHS
struggled to keep opposing
runners off the plate.
As a result, Coach Dave
Smith called on junior
Cassidy Ling-Scott and
sophomore Mya St. Claire to
replace the injured Smith in
the circle.
“Cassidy had only pitch-
ing experience when she
was a freshman, but she has
a lot of potential to become a
good pitcher if she works at
it,” said Smith. “If Mya puts
the works in, I believe she as
well can develop into a good
pitcher in the circle.”
Ling-Scott struck out four,
but had 17 walks in four
innings against Junction City
in the 23-0 loss. And St. Clair,
who pitched the fifth inning
of the first game, struck out
three, but also walked 17 and
St. Clair three in the second-
game loss to Junction City.
Also getting base hits were
Ling-Scott, Hartford, Ryan,
Ransom and Steiner.
Ling-Scott also pitched
against Sweet Home before
being relieved with two out
in the fifth by Hartford, who
struck out the lone batter she
faced.
Smith said, “Hartford is
an up and coming potential
pitcher and catcher that we
look forward to working with
in the future.”
The Outlaws struggled
against Sweet Home pitcher
Sanita Zanona, who struck
out nine of the 19 batters she
faced. She walked one. St.
Clair was the lone SHS player
to collect a base hit.
Junction City 14-1 (21-5
overall) won its first Sky-Em
League title in 25 years and is
ranked No. 10 by the Oregon
School Activities Association.
