Outlaws continue to dominate the diamond
By Rongi Yosd
Correspondent
The Outlaws posted three
wins this past week to push
their league record to 10-1.
Sisters defeated the Sutherlin
Bulldogs 8-3 at home on
Tuesday, April 25, and three
days later beat Elmira at
home in both frames of a
double-header.
On Tues day agai nst
Sutherlin, the Outlaws got
eight runs off six hits and five
errors. The Bulldogs scored
three runs off two hits and one
error.
Sisters held a 5-3 lead as
teams headed into the sixth
inning. Sutherlin scored a run
in the top the sixth, but the
Outlaws answered with three
runs and went up by five.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Hayden Parsons was hit by a
pitch and took first base, and
Alec Gannon followed with
a bunt single. Zach Morgan
drove a shot that bounced over
the fence for a ground-rule
double, which brought Parsons
home and got Gannon to third
base. Gannon scored on a
passed ball and Ryan Cook hit
a sac-fly that scored Morgan
and pushed the Outlaws to a
comfortable 8-3 advantage.
Neither team scored in the
seventh, and the Outlaws tal-
lied the win.
Sisters got big hits through-
out the game from several
players. Jett Mingus had two
doubles and an RBI, and
Morgan hit a key double in the
sixth that scored a run. Jake
Larson had a nice RBI single,
and Gannon went two-for-four.
Cook pitched the first five
innings, Gannon pitched the
sixth, and Mingus closed out
the seventh.
Hodges said, “It rained the
first four innings of the game,
and it was very wet and cold.
“It definitely was a contrib-
uting factor in the errors we
committed. We’re typically
not that type of team.”
At home on Friday, the
Outlaws posted an 8-4, 4-3
win in the double-header
against Elmira.
In the first game, Sisters
got eight runs off nine hits
and zero errors, and Elmira
recorded four runs off eight
hits and four errors.
The Outlaws pounded the
ball in the first inning, and
racked up five runs to take a
quick 5-0 lead. Gannon hit a
double down the right-field
line, and Morgan followed
with a two-run homer over
the left-field fence. After two
batters reached first via walks,
Ryan Funk hit a two-RBI
double, and Sisters went up
4-0. Larson hit an RBI single
to wrap up the first-inning
scoring.
In the sixth, the Outlaws
added three more runs. Big
hits in the inning came from
Christopher Luz who hit
a single to right field, and
Cook who singled down the
left-field line. Sisters held
the Falcons scoreless in the
sixth and seventh innings and
recorded the win.
Elmira scored a run in the
third, and added three in the
fifth.
Morgan pitched four com-
plete innings and was relieved
in the fifth. Zach’s fastball was
too much for the batters, and
he tallied five strikeouts. Jett
Mingus took the mound in the
fifth and closed out the game
to record the save. Mingus’
slider and curve ball worked
well for him and he recorded
five strikeouts.
It was a much closer sec-
ond game, and fans were on
the edge of their seats in the
seventh inning.
Sisters scored four runs
off seven hits and one error,
and the Falcons scored three
runs off six hits and one error.
Elmira scored a run in the
top of the first, but Sisters
answered with two runs to go
up 2-1, thanks to RBI singles
from Morgan and Cook.
In the third, Luz got on base
with a double down the right-
field line. Gannon brought
Luz home on a base hit to right
field, and Morgan scored on
an error for Sisters’ fourth and
final run of the game.
In the top of the seventh,
the Outlaws got themselves
in a bind. With two outs, the
Falcons loaded the bases, and
scored a run on a base hit.

batter to make it a 4-3 con-
test. The Falcons’ next batter
hit a fly ball to right field and
Turner Stutzman made the
catch for the win.
Hodges said, “When you’re
ahead by three with two outs,
the odds are pretty low the
other team will score. But I’ve
got to give them credit. They
didn’t give up and utilized
every at-bat. Fortunately, we
responded as well. Jett threw a
nice pitch on their best power
hitter and Stutzman made a
great catch.
“We performed well under
pressure, and were able to
save the game today. We shut
the door when it needed to be
shut. There was no margin for
error.”
Sisters was to play at home
against Cottage Grove on
Tuesday, May 2. The Outlaws
have a bye on Friday, but
picked up a non-league game
at Dayton on Saturday, May 6.
