Sisters Rodeo
tickets on sale
Tickets are now on sale for
the 77th annual PRCA Sisters
Rodeo. With Xtreme Bulls
competition on Wednesday,
June 7, there are five perfor-
mances and a weekend of spe-
cial events planned for “The
Biggest Little Show in the
World.”
Bobby Kerr’s Mustang
Act will highlight all five per-
formances. The tricks these
formerly wild horses dem-
onstrate are a result of Kerr
teaching the horses trust,
confidence, and skills that
surprise and awe audiences
all across the nation. His last
performance at Sisters estab-
lished his act as one of the
all-time favorites.
Xtreme Bulls begins
Wednesday, June 7, at 6:30
p.m.; Rodeo performances
are Friday, June 9, 7 p.m.;
Saturday, June 10, 1 p.m. and
7 p.m.; and Sunday, June 11,
1 p.m. Slack (timed events)
on Thursday, June 8, is free
to spectators.
The traditional rodeo
parade will be held in down-
town Sisters on Saturday,
June 10, starting at 9:30 a.m.

Sisters Habitat raises
walls on new homes
Two local families had
reason to celebrate last week
as they raised walls for their
homes with youth from
around Central Oregon.
Marla Brinkman and
Sharyn Benson, both part
of the Sisters Habitat for
Humanity homeownership
program, spent time working
with students to build their
homes. Early in the week,
more than 20 Heart of Oregon
Corps YouthBuild students
raised three walls in less than
an hour at Brinkman’s future
home.
Students had been building
the walls a few days prior to
the group event.
The YouthBuild group is
partnering with Habitat to
build the home Brinkman
will purchase when complete.
YouthBuild students, spend
time on the job site and in
the classroom learning voca-
tional and leadership skills.
At the completion of the pro-
gram many will have earned a
GED, high school diploma or
college credit.

Eight of Sisters’ most
interesting young men and
their escorts displayed their
talents, passions, sense of
humor and fashion sensibil-
ity in the annual Mr. SHS
pageant held Saturday night
at the Sisters High School
auditorium.
The pageant and all of the
activities that lead up to it is
a benefit for Sisters Family
Access Network (FAN),
which connects families in
need to vital services such as
food, shelter, heating, health-
care, clothing, and more.
The theme of this year’s
events was “Mr. SHS 2017
— Famous Film Couples: A
Hollywood Man Pageant.”
The contestants were:
• Jonathan Bertagna/
Zidane Galant-Laporete as
Percy and Annabeth from
“Percy Jackson and the
Olympians: The Lightning
Thief.”
• Jacob Gurney/Lauren

Buttercup from “A Princess
Bride.”
• Will Werts/Jules Meeter
as Peeta and Katniss from
“The Hunger Games.”
• Max Sillers/Ceili
Cornelius as Forrest and

Hernandez as Jack and Rose
from “Titanic.”
• Sam Lewis/Sophie
Borders as Gatsby and Daisy
from “The Great Gatsby.”
• Jake Larson/Sabrina
Reifschneider as Will and
Elizabeth from “Pirates of the
Caribbean.”
Emcees Rylee Weber and
Cassidy Ling Scott kept the
proceedings rolling and filled
set changeovers with a series
of jokes notable for their
groan factor.
After an exceptional open-
ing dance number that fea-
tured vignettes from each of
the movies represented, the
contestants served up short
videos, again tied (sometimes
very loosely) to their movie
theme.
Talents on display ranged
from cooking to juggling to
