Sisters High School
yearbooks on sale
The 2017 Sisters High
School (SHS) yearbook is
available for pre-order online.
Sisters High School has
a committed yearbook staff
including Cierra Haken, Mia
Cook, Ellie Cook, Cassidy
Ling-Scott, Annika Stadeli,
Will Werts, Ceili Cornelius,
Amanda Smith and Mckenna
Marshall. This year’s staff
is the largest staff SHS has
ever had, and everyone is
committed to making the
best 2017 yearbook possible.
Each member has their own
interests in what they what
to do with the book including
design, writing, photography,
and business advertising.
“I look forward to working
with this year’s team to create
our best yearbook yet,” said
staff member Cierra Haken.
The team has been working
closely with Genie Westfall
with Herff Jones Publishing
Company to create and print
this year’s book.

Artists earn art fellowship
In collaboration with The
Roundhouse Foundation
of Sisters, Crow’s Shadow
Institute of the Arts has
announced Dawn Emerson
and Carolyn Platt as the recip-
ients of the Central Oregon
Artists Fellowship.
This project is intended to
foster cross-pollination and
career development for artists
working in Central Oregon.
Crow’s Shadow Institute
of the Arts is a nonprofit
organization with a spacious
gallery and printmaking stu-
dio. CSIA brings in emerging
and established artists to pro-
duce monotypes, monoprints
and editions — including lith-
ographs, etchings, linocuts,
woodcuts and more.
Carolyn and Dawn are
both talented professional art-
ists with years of experience
in teaching and exhibiting
their art. Both will receive a
travel stipend and four days of
access to the Crow’s Shadow
print studio, with instruction
provided by CSIA’s Master
Printer.
Their time spent in the
studio will be split between
learning new techniques, and
applying those processes to
their existing artwork and
methods. The ultimate goal of
this project will be to expose
professional artists to new
approaches, allowing them to
take new knowledge back to
their home studios, and pass-
ing on that experience to other
artists in their communities.

Uber, Lyft representatives

SALEM (AP) — Rep-
resentatives for ride-hailing
companies Uber and Lyft
are pushing a bill that would
ensure the state regulates them
instead of individual cities.
The Eugene Register-
Guard reports representatives
said at a Monday hearing that
the bill would set statewide
rules for the companies that
would allow them to expand
to cities such as Eugene and
Springfield, where they are
not currently operating.
Local governments have
voiced opposition to House
Bill 3246, which would
reverse their authority over
taxis and ride-hailing services.
Under the bill, drivers are
considered independent con-
tractors instead of employees,
so don’t have to pay payroll
taxes, compensate at minimum
wage, or provide benefits.
