SPRD offers excursions for Sisters seniors Sisters seniors can enjoy excursions to various loca- tions and activities around Central Oregon through Sisters Park & Recreation District. SPRD runs Sage (Senior Activities, Gatherings & Experiences). All seniors are invited on these excursions, and SPRD strives to make the activities affordable for seniors through grants, schol- arships, and sponsorship from local businesses and individuals. Adult/Senior Programs Coordinator Shannon Rackowski has planned excursions through 2018, which alternate every other month. The first excursion for 2017 is to the Warm Springs Museum and the local casino on Thursday, February 23, then in April they will be going to the Oregon Observatory/Sunriver Nature Center. Trips to places like Cascades Lavender Farm, Lava Lands, Chimps, Inc. and other places are in the plans. “My purpose is to keep our kupunas (elder ances- tors) active, engaged, laugh- ing, healthy, and happy,” said Rackowski. Rooted in the trajec- tory of West Coast bluegrass, Hot Buttered Rum plays what has been described as California’s own acoustic music. HBR’s years of tour- ing have given the band the chance to work and play with a wide cross-section of musicians, people like Peter Rowan, Phil Lesh, Chris Thile, Brett Dennen, and Robert Earl Keen.
