Art Stroll on in January

Within one block of the
corner of Hood Avenue and
Elm Street, you’ll find five
galleries open this fourth
Friday, January 27, that pro-
vide beautiful and unique art
that will tickle your fancy and
take your breath away.
Just in time for Valentine’s
Day, Cha For the Finest fea-
tures glass hearts in all col-
ors for that special person in
your life. Let Cha show you
how she creates these hearts
and why they are all unique:
hearts with bubbles, steel
shavings, sparkling dichroic,
gold nuggets, and gold
quartz. All hearts come with
your choice of a rolled satin
or buckskin cord, and all are
on sale at 20 percent off.
Upcycling is the art of
using ordinary objects to cre-
ate extraordinary treasures,
from funky to fabulous. At
Grizzly Ridge Upcycle an
eclectic collection of upcy-
cled art from more than 60
Northwest artists will ignite
your imagination. Visitors
have made this a must-see
gallery, and if you can’t make
it here you can find their trea-
sures online at Etsy.com.

Representing 17 artists, Jim
Cummings has created a
wonderful place to gather
with friends, enjoy some of
the finest coffee in Sisters,
and discover offbeat and
functional art.
Multi-talented Western
artist, singer and songwriter
Dyrk Godby has corralled
some of his most exclusive
art works in his gallery: origi-
nal oil paintings, prints, fine
pencil drawings and drawings
on leather, all celebrating the
American West. Stop in and
chat, and if you’re lucky,
Dyrk will play you a song.
It’s hard to believe that
work by 20 artists is dis-
played in the compact Things
Etc. gallery. This collection
includes shamanic art, jew-
elry, pottery, hats and multi-
media. A stroll into this warm
and welcoming spot is always
fascinating.
Venture farther west on
Hood Avenue to Clearwater
Gallery, which will celebrate
all of its artists who are gear-
ing up for a new year of com-
munity. This month, paint-
ings by David Mensing and
Dennis Dame are warming up
the gallery with bright color
and brilliant subject matter,
and Wendy Vernon will show
a new jewelry collection, just
in time for Valentine’s Day.
Hood Avenue Art’s open
studio sale highlights work
documenting the changes
in media and subject matter
of its own artists, for col-
lectors at affordable prices.
There will be music and light
refreshments.
Ken Scott’s Imagination
Gallery will feature his Rose
Fire Cauldron and other new
creations by Ken.
Eight of Sisters Gallery &
Frame Shop’s artists (Curtiss
Abbott, Gary Albertson,
Paul Alan Bennett, Jennifer
Hartwig, Norma Holmes,
Dennis Schmidling, Jodi
Schneider and Lynn
Woodward) have work in
the Sisters Library Annual
Exhibit, but the gallery has
lots more to offer, includ-
ing original “potato prints”
by Carol Grigg, jewelry by
Vicki Hodge, and 2017 cal-
endars by Kimry Jelen, now
at a reduced price.
The biggest show of the
night, which kicks off 2017
art exhibits at Sisters Library,
is the Library Annual Exhibit.
This year, the show features
121 pieces by 51 local art-
ists. The open house on
Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
will include announcement
of three People’s Choice
Awards, a silent auction to
benefit Friends of the Sisters
Library, live music, and light
refreshments.
Less than a block from the
library is Bigfoot Wellness,
which will be open featuring
original art by Sisters artist
Linda Hanson.
Don’t forget to sign up for
the January Quick Draw. This
month’s drawing is for a $100
gift certificate to the new res-
taurant going in at the site of
Latigo. The new bar menu
coming in February will
include elk burgers, sand-
wiches, and sushi. Additions
to the fine dining menu will
include elk filet, flat iron
steak, New York sirloin and
veal. Sign up one time per
gallery, but visit as many gal-
leries as you can to enhance
your chances of winning.
