Snow
damages
wildlife
enclosures
GRANTS PASS (AP) —
Four animal enclosures at a
wildlife center in southwest-
ern Oregon have been dam-
aged by days of snow and rain.
The Daily Courier reports
that one of the bird enclosures
at Wildlife Images collapsed
completely during the wet
weather last week. The net
ceiling on two other aviaries
was also damaged, as was the
roof of a metal skunk cage.
Dave Siddon, executive
director of the rehabilita-
tion and education center
west of Grants Pass, says
the destroyed aviary was
built with help from an
AmeriCorps team and will
need to be rebuilt before
spring, when rehabilitation
season begins. He says the
enclosure provided an area
where birds could fly before
being released into the wild.
No animals were harmed
and they are all safe in tem-
porary housing.
Standoff lawyer faces three
charges in court scuffle
PORTLAND (AP) —
The attorney for a leader
of the armed occupation at
an Oregon wildlife refuge
is now facing three charges
after an incident in which
federal marshals tackled him
for refusing to stop arguing
with the judge in the case.
The
Oregonian/
OregonLive reports a fed-
eral prosecutor assigned from
Washington state filed court
documents Friday charging
Marcus Mumford with three
misdemeanors.
The incident in question
occurred when Mumford’s
client Ammon Bundy was
acquitted last fall.
The latest documents
replace citations against
Mumford which he had
pleaded not guilty to earlier
this month.
Mumford is accused of
creating a disturbance by
impeding or disrupting offi-
cial government duties. He’s
also charged with failure to
comply with signs that pro-
hibit disruption of official
government duties and fail-
ure to comply with the lawful
direction of a federal police
officer.
Mumford and his lawyer,
Michael Levine, have said
they intend to vigorously
challenge the charges.
