Fire district recognized
for budget work
The Sisters-Camp
Sherman Fire District is good
at putting out fires and saving
lives. It turns out that they’re
good at running the business
of fire service, as well.
The District has received
the Distinguished Budget
Presentation Award from
the Government Finance
Officers Association (GFOA)
for its 2016-2017 budget.
The Distinguished Budget
Presentation Award is the
highest award in governmen-
tal budgeting. This is the first
time the District has received
this award and is one of only
a handful of fire districts in
Oregon who have received
the award in 2016.
In order to receive the
budget award, the District
had to satisfy nationally rec-
ognized guidelines for effec-
tive budget presentation. The
guidelines are designed to
assess how well the District’s
budget serves as a policy
document, a financial plan,
an operations guide and a
communications device. The
budget document must be
rated “proficient” in all four

FOSL issues call
for artists

Friends of the Sisters
Library is calling all artists
in Sisters Country to mark
their calendars for Monday,
January 9, 2017 — the sub-
mission date for original
artwork to be displayed in
the FOSL 12th Annual Art
Exhibit, which runs from
January 11 to February 24.
Artwork for the exhibit
may be submitted at the
library community room
from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Invitations with all the
details have been mailed

out to artists and can also be
picked up at the information
desk at the Sisters Library.
Artists may submit two
pieces of wall-hung art and
five pieces of other art forms
that have not been exhibited
in the art exhibit in the past
three years. More than that
cannot be accepted due to
limited space.
Secured wire hangers are
required on all artwork that
will be hung; no sawtooth
hangers. Wall-hung art can-
not exceed 30 by 40 inches

Sisters Movie House brings
it to the big screen for two
performances on Sunday,
December 18 and Monday,
December 19.
The two programs will
show at 2 p.m. on December
18 and at 6 p.m. on December
19, and is another presen-
tation exclusive to Sisters
Movie House. Tickets for all

As perennial fans already
know, The Nutcracker fea-
tures a Christmas tree that
magically grows, a battle
between toy soldiers and
an army of mice led by the
Mouse King, and of course,
Tchaikovsky’s mesmerizing
score. This production by the
Royal Ballet was first seen in
1984 and is the work of the
now 90-years-young Peter
Wright, with the famous
role of the Sugar Plum Fairy
danced by Royal Ballet
Principal Lauren Cuthbertson
joined by her prince, princi-
pal dancer Federico Bonelli.
It was captured as a live per-
formance on December 8,
and features acclaimed for-
mer dancer Darcey Bussell as
host.

coup for us at Sisters Movie
House,” said Drew Kaza,
managing partner of Quoin
Media & Entertainment,
which owns the movie the-
ater. “Simply put, we couldn’t
be more thrilled to present
this world-class ensemble
in one of the world’s most
beloved – and iconic – holi-
day cultural events. We think
this is a special treat that
music — and dance — lovers
from all over Central Oregon
will come to treasure with us.
