Lady Outlaws corral Crook County
By Rongi Yost
Correspondent
The Lady Outlaws kicked
off pre-season play with a
41-21 victory over Crook
County at home on Friday,
December 2.
It was a tight first quarter,
with the Cowgirls leading the
Outlaws by a narrow mar-
gin of 7-6 at the close of the
period. Sisters played very
strong defense but missed
numerous lay-ups.
In the second quarter, the
Outlaws settled down, played
like a unit and shared the ball,
which resulted in increased
scoring. Sisters held the
Cowgirls to just one point in
the quarter, and at the half
were on top 18-8.
Sisters continued to play
strong in the third, and by the
final quarter had the game
completely under control. All
10 players on the squad saw
time on the court, and seven
of the 10 scored.
Amanda Smith led the
scoring effort with 16 points,
and also recorded eight
rebounds and a blocked shot.

the Outlaws’ eight assists,
and added four rebounds and
three steals. Head contributed
three steals and one blocked
shot. Meaghan Greaney also
posted a blocked shot.
Coach Alan Von Stein
said, “After we got the first-
quarter jitters under control,
we calmed down and played
excellent defense and com-
municated well. It was a great
team win and it was nice to
get that first one under our
belts.
“This next week we will
work on fundamentals, team
play, and play development,”
added Von Stein.
The Lady Outlaws will
play at home against Yamhill-
Carlton on Friday, December
9. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Museum to host
after-hours event
The High Desert Museum
is hosting a special HDM
After Hours event on Friday,
December 16. The public is
invited to explore exhibits,
enjoy live jazz by Clairen
Stone and Jason Plankey, and
drinks and light appetizers.
The museum’s permanent
indoor exhibitions will be
open, as well as the current
traveling exhibitions, “Ansel
Adams: Masterworks” and
“The Buzzsaw Sharks of
Long Ago.”
“The people spoke and
we listened,” said the muse-
um’s director of programs,
Christina Cid, Ph.D. “Folks
were having a hard time get-
ting to the Museum during
business hours this winter,
so we created a special after-
hours program for them to
see all these great exhibits.”
Ansel Adams selected his
favorites of his own work for
this collection of beautiful
black-and-white photogra-
phy. The 48 pieces represent
his life’s work, spanning a
photography career of over
50 years. Visitors may then
see what the buzz is all about
in “The Buzzsaw Sharks of
Long Ago” exhibition featur-
ing the whimsical-yet-scien-
tific artwork of Ray Troll.
Guests also can experi-
ence a smokejumper’s world
through the “Smokejumpers:
Firefighters from the Sky”
exhibition that features infor-
mative panels, video inter-
views, a life-sized smoke-
jumper and tools of the trade.
It’s a great opportunity to
jump back in time and expe-
rience high desert frontier life
and the journey of Plateau
Indian Nations from reser-
vation life to the 21st cen-
tury in the permanent exhib-
its “Spirit of the West” and
“By Hand Through Time,”
respectively.
HDM After Hours is
from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday,
December 16. Cost is $3
for members and $7 for
non-members. There will
be a no-host bar and light
refreshments. RSVP at www.
