Community Orchestra of Central Oregon received grant support from The Roundhouse Foundation.
Orchestra draws
local musicians
Community Orchestra of Central Oregon
(COCO), now in its third year, is a volunteer
orchestra created for dedicated musicians of
all abilities from Central Oregon who want to
have fun and make music. They play a variety
of music, from jazz, pop, to classical pieces for
the enrichment of the local community.
Members of the orchestra provided music
at the Sisters Art Works holiday open house
on Saturday. Their Christmas concert was
held at Bend Senior Center (1600 S.E. Reed
Market Rd.), December 6. The Central Oregon
Symphony loaned their percussion instruments
for the concert.
With the continued growth of membership
and desire to play outside of the rehearsal set-
ting, the group needs percussion instruments.
An anonymous donor presented COCO with
a matching grant for this use, up to $5,000 by
end of December.
A donation from The Roundhouse
Foundation kickstarted the drive.
Musicians come to the orchestra with var-
ied musical back grounds. Many played when
they were young, some in a grade school string
program. Others got their instruments out of
their closet after a 40-year hiatus. Some who
always wanted to play an instrument took
it up later in life after finding a teacher and
are now surprising themselves by playing for
others.
The orchestra gives a place for people of
all ages to grow their skills in a safe and sup-
portive environment.

Old Mill District
The Old Mill District resonates with Central
Oregon’s rich history, and speaks to the ongoing,
vibrant transformation of the region. Today, the
100-plus-year story of this special place on the
banks of the Deschutes River continues with
shopping, dining, entertainment and a holiday
season that is full of tradition.
Many families visit the Old Mill District this

just a few of the special events the Old Mill District hosts to celebrate the season.

The Episcopal Church of The Transfiguration is
a unique worshiping congregation, and the services
on Christmas Eve reflect that.
The Church is made up of two worshiping
styles, one that arises out of several protestant and
non-denominational traditions and the other from
the Episcopal Church tradition. The first service
on Christmas Eve starts at 4 p.m. and is a less-
formal service designed with the multi-denomi-
national worship style in mind. There are many
Christmas carols, the reading of Christmas les-
sons, with all attending children invited to take
part in acting out the Gospel Christmas story. The 9 p.m. service is the tradi-
tional Christmas Eve service of The Episcopal Church. It is filled with Christmas carols and
is what most people often picture when they think of Midnight Mass for Christmas.
Both Christmas Eve services feature music by our choir. Christmas Day Sunday we will
have one service at 9:30 a.m.
