14 Wednesday, November 9, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon SMS football ends with winning record The Outlaws middle school football squad finished their season on a winning note as they outpaced the team from Warm Springs Middle School in a rematch game by a score of 22-6. This win capped a season filled with ups and downs and solidified a winning record for the grid- iron gang. The season began with three successive wins over teams from La Pine, Warm Springs, and a particularly good team from Burns. Head Coach Tim Ogilvie noted that the road trip to Burns on a cold, rainy night was a pivotal win for the Outlaws because it brought the team closer together and helped raise their confidence level. The middle school team then faced defeat for the first time in 2016 as they lost their next two contests. Costly mistakes on special teams and unfortunate breakdowns on defense allowed Madras to pull away from the Outlaws in the second half. The team then lost a close game to Culver in the final minutes of play taking their season record to three wins and two losses. Ultimately the Outlaws finished the season with a very respectable 4-2 record. Coach Ogilvie said, “This group of players was more of a complete group than any other I’ve coached. They worked hard each day in prac- tice, and it showed up on the field on game day. I believe this group had more passion for the game as a whole than most teams at a 7th-and-8th- grade level.” Ogilivie also noted that the high school will be get- ting some great football players next year, and feels they will make an impact right away. He singled out Brody Anderson, Hayden Sharp, Hunter Spor, Dillon Macintosh and Garrett Vohs as standout 8th-grade players that will be fun to watch under the lights. He also noted that there were many role-players whose hard work made the team better and allowed the team to achieve a successful season. Ogilivie also thanked Coach Q and Coach Freeland for the love and dedication they showed the team. PHOTO BY JIM CORNELIUS Jill Neal’s “Wine Diva” was featured on the cover of Pink magazine. The outlook for Sisters volleyball is definitely bright if the 2016 Sisters Middle School/Sisters Park & Recreation District volleyball season is any indication. The 6th/7th/8th-grade girls recently completed a near-perfect season, crushing league competition. Scores were lopsided in favor of the Outlaws as they routinely won games by double digits. Coaches Rachelle Myhre and Katie Bradbury were forced to challenge their teams by play- ing them against each other. It seems the only competi- tion for these ladies was other Outlaws. If they had been on the other side of the bracket they would have undoubtedly played in the tournament championship game. Their play was so solid that they were invited to come to open gyms in Bend to pro- vide the larger schools better competition.
