Wounded swan cared
for in Sisters

Wildlife agents found a
severely wounded adult trum-
peter swan at the Summer
Lake Wildlife Management
Area last week and trans-
ported the bird to Broken Top
Veterinarian Clinic located
on Highway 20 between
Bend and Sisters.
The wounded bird was
checked over by the staff
of Broken Top who con-
tacted Elise Wolf of Native
Bird Care, a Sisters wild-
life rehabber. After a quick
analysis of the condition of
the swan, Wolf took it to the
Oregon Veterinary Referral
Associates over in Springfield
for care. It took over four
hours for Dr. Curt Daly and
his staff to remove shotgun
pellets lodged throughout the
swan’s body, and repair two
broken bones in the left wing.
That’s when the laborious
task of caring for the swan
became a full-time job for
Wolf. She has specific expe-
rience with swans.

Sisters artist honored
at museum art show

Sisters artist Randall
Tillery got a pleasant surprise
at the closing reception for
the 2016 Favell Museum Art
Show held Saturday, October
22 in Klamath Falls: He
received the People’s Choice/
First Place Award.
“I was extremely hon-
ored to receive this award,”
Tillery told The Nugget. “The
caliber of art in the show was
exceptional. The 32 artists
that were juried into the show
comprised of outstanding art-
ists from California, Oregon,
Washington and Idaho. Their
work included contemporary,
representational wall art and
sculpture. My award-win-
ning painting, ‘Along Hwy.
126,’ is a painting that I did
of a scene that one can see
on the drive between Sisters
and Redmond. It’s one of the
local scenes that I am contin-
ually drawn to and excited to
paint.”
The Favell Museum was
built to showcase Gene
Favell’s private collection
and to share it with all who
visit. The museum has been

Sundstrom is soccer Player of the Year

Malachy
Sundstrom was named the
Sky-Em Player of the Year,
an honor he also claimed last
season.
Sundstrom played for-
ward and scored 18 goals
and recorded nine assists for
the Outlaws this year. He
currently holds the record
for second all-time in goals
scored and assists at Sisters
High School.
“Malachy is a huge com-
petitor, and has a nose for
the goal,” said Coach Rob
Jensen. “He makes defenders
miss and creates opportuni-
ties for his teammates.”
The Outlaws had a very
strong squad this year, and in
addition to Sundstrom, four
other players earned first-
team honors, including Asher
Bachtold, Keegan Greaney,
Minam Cravens and Ryan
Funk.
Bachtold (sophomore)
was a first-team pick at cen-
ter-midfield. Asher moved
into the center-midfield role
this year and proved to be the
best player in the league at
that position.
“Asher was a catalyst for
both our defense and our
offense, as well as a leader
on the field,” said Jensen.
“Asher is the hockey assist
for the team (assist to the
assist) and makes us tick.”
Greaney (senior) played
mostly at center-back as a
defender for the Outlaws,
and his abilities were evident
every time he stepped onto
the field.
“Keegan is the best athlete
on the field, and with that, he
also improved his skills in
the off-season,” said Jensen.
“Keegan played at center-
back and also saw some
time at outside-midfield, and
he constantly thwarted the
