Sisters Movie House to help horses find homes
Sisters Movie House is
showing the film “Harry and
Snowman” starting October
21 — and they’ll be taking
donations for an equine char-
ity as well.
“Harry and Snowman”
tells the heart-warming story
of Dutch immigrant Harry
deLeyer who journeyed to
the United States after World
War II and developed a trans-
formative relationship with
a broken-down Amish plow
horse he rescued off a slaugh-
ter truck bound for the glue
factory.
Harry paid $80 for
the horse and named him
Snowman. In less than two
years, Harry and Snowman
went on to win the triple
crown of show-jumping, beat-
ing the nation’s blue-bloods.
They were famous for their
Heroin
bust made
in Bend
The Bend Police
Department arrested four
Bend residents on October 14
for charges of possession of
controlled substances.
Ryan Vidal, Autumn
Admire, Nathaniel Alvis
and Crystal Prestridge were
all contacted on October
13 at 9:32 p.m. at 20154
Merriewood Dr. during the
service of a search warrant.
The execution of the warrant
lasted into the early morning
hours of October 14.
According to Bend Police,
Ryan Vidal was found to
be in possession of heroin,
methamphetamine and asso-
ciated paraphernalia for both.
The investigation allegedly
revealed Vidal has also been
delivering heroin. Vidal lives
at the Merriewood address.
Autumn Admire, who also
resides at the Merriewood
address, was allegedly found
to be in possession of heroin.
The investigation into
Nathaniel Alvis’ involvement
allegedly showed he was in
possession of methamphet-
amine, heroin, and several
baggies containing several
different prescription medica-
tions that were either a DEA
Schedule III or Schedule IV
controlled substance.
Crystal Prestridge was
contacted with Alvis during
the search warrant execution.
The investigation allegedly
found Prestridge was in pos-
session of heroin and was in
violation of her probation.
Vidal, Admire, Alvis, and
Prestridge were all lodged at
the Deschutes County Jail.
day and traveled around the
world together. Their chance
meeting at a Pennsylvania
horse auction saved them
both and crafted a friendship
that lasted a lifetime.
In the film, 86-year-old
Harry tells their Cinderella
love story firsthand, as he
continues to train on today’s
show-jumping circuit.
Sisters Movie House
will take donations for The
Snowman Rescue Fund
during the film’s run. The
Snowman Rescue Fund sup-
ports Omega Horse Rescue &
Rehabilitation Center, which
gives other slaughter-bound
horses the same chance that
Snowman had to become a
part of a loving family.
Omega has placed
over 1,200 horses since its
foundation in 1997, and res-
cues slaughter-bound horses
from the New Holland
Auction, the same auction
where Harry deLeyer rescued
Snowman in 1956. Omega
saves, rehabilitates, re-trains
and prepares horses for adop-
tion into new homes. For
