Weaving and waterfowl
featured at library
By Sue Stafford
Correspondent
The Friends of the Sisters
Library have two color-
ful exhibits hanging in the
library this month – weaving
and waterfowl photography.
In the community room
and lobby display case are
eye-catching displays of
woven, fabric, and felted
art pieces from the mem-
bers of the 42-year-old
Central Oregon Spinners and
Weavers Guild (COSWG).
On the walls are 24 original
pieces, among them scarves,
shawls, wall hangings and
table runners, some of which
are for sale.
One piece — already
sold — is Linda Davis’ stun-
ning hand-dyed, woven, and
sewn top. Davis first created
the fabric by laying out warp
chains of yarn in groups,
daubing on the dye in shades
of purple, orange and gold,
and then weaving the yarn
into fabric. Where the dif-
ferent colors intersect, new
colors were created, like the
yellow and purple combin-
ing to make pink. The fabric
won Best in Show at the 2014
Deschutes County Fair.

Scottish country
dance in Sisters

The squall of the bagpipes
made the rafters ring at The
Belfry on Saturday night, as
piper Steve Allely led the
Grand March that kicked off
an evening of Scottish coun-
try dancing.
The evening was spon-
sored by the High Desert
Celtic Society, which pre-
serves and celebrates the
culture of the Celtic peoples,
many of whom emigrated to

Ann Marland of Sisters is
of Scottish heritage.
“My great-grandparents
emigrated to the area around
Burns and John Day — which
was nothing like Scotland, of
course, but it was free land,”
she said.
Marland has been danc-
ing for some 30 years, and
came out to Saturday’s
event replete with a sash
representing her family
tartan.

Fall is in the air, there’s
new snow on the Cascades
— which means winter’s
right around the corner and
with it comes the beautiful
High Desert Chorale Holiday
Season performance.
This year, singing right
along with the adults in the
chorale will be the Sisters
Children’s Choir, under the
direction of Lola Knox of
Sisters.
The children’s choir is
usually a stand-alone group
of young music-lovers
from kindergarten to fourth
grade. They rehearse every
Monday evening starting
at 4:30 p.m. at Shepherd
of the Hills Lutheran
Church.
In the past they have
had their own slot in earlier
chorale performances, and
this year that will continue
with musical numbers in
Swahili as well as English.
They will also be sing-
ing at least two pieces with
the chorale and Sisters Bell
Choir.
Knox would love to have
more voices in her children’s
choir.
Performance dates for the
chorale, bell choir and chil-
dren’s choir this year will be:
Friday, December 16, at 7
p.m., and Sunday, December
18 at 2:30 p.m. There will
also be a special performance
by the children’s choir at 11
a.m. that Sunday at Shepherd
of the Hills Lutheran Church
in Sisters.
For more information
about joining the Children’s
Choir, call Lola Knox at 541-
390-4615, or contact her at
4tayknox@gmail.com.
