12 Wednesday, October 12, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Sheriff: Ammon Bundy was dishonest on social media PORTLAND (AP) — The Harney County sheriff said he wasn’t given advance notice that authorities planned to arrest Ammon Bundy as the Oregon standoff leader was headed to a community meet- ing in a neighboring county. But Sheriff Dave Ward told Bundy attorney Marcus Mumford he hoped for Bundy’s arrest. Bundy was arrested Jan. 26 during a traffic stop that included the fatal shooting by police of occupation spokes- man Robert “LaVoy” Finicum. The defense called Ward to the stand Monday, October 3, weeks after he testified for the prosecution. Ward sparred with Mumford about whether a pre-occupation email from Bundy contained an ultima- tum. The sheriff also said a statement Bundy released on social media after the two met led him to conclude Bundy was dishonest. Bundy and six others are charged with conspiring to prevent federal employees from doing their jobs at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge during a 41-day standoff last winter. AUTO ACCIDENT? Three Sisters Chiropractic & Pain Management Dr. Inice Gough, DC | 541.549.3583 — Since 1997 — Outlaws take down previously unbeaten Elmira By Rongi Yost Correspondent The Outlaws tallied a big victory with their 27-3 win at Elmira on Friday, October 7. Field conditions were muddy and sloppy, but that didn’t deter the Outlaws as they handed Elmira their first league loss of the season, and spoiled homecoming for the Falcons. Elmira opened the scoring when Devin Vestal kicked a 33-yard field goal after a long play-action pass on their second possession. That was the only time the Falcons would threaten. Sisters’ defense was always a step ahead and played very physically throughout the contest. Sisters first TD of the night came on a nice pass from Tanner Head and a nice catch by Christopher Luz in the back of the end zone in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Outlaws capped a long drive with a three-yard pass from Head to Johnny Gurney. Sisters converted on a run up the middle by Gurney, and the Outlaws went up 14-3 to close out the half. Sisters added two more touchdowns in the final period. Jacob Stevens scored on a 70-yard run which broke the game open, and Luz scored on a 14-yard run, followed by a PAT by Ben Saba, which hit the mark. The Outlaws recorded 336 yards of total offense in the win, and held Elmira scoreless after the first quar- ter. The Falcons held a huge advantage size-wise up front, but were beat to the punch on both sides of the ball by Sisters’ offensive and defen- sive lines. Head connected on seven of his nine attempts for 95 yards passing. Luz finished the game with 87 yards receiving, and Jacob Stevens added 79 yards rushing on five carries. Ryan Cook was all over the field for the Outlaws on defense, and had a team-high four tackles and nine assists, two of which imposed a loss. Coach Gary Thorson said, “We swarmed to the ball defensively very well, and got good run support from our secondary (Luz, Saba, Will Miner, and Tyler Friend).” Tyler Head had one of his best games at the rover posi- tion, as well as Austin Lake at the defensive-end position. Thorson told The Nugget that both players did a great PHOTO BY JERRY BALDOCK Tanner Head launches a pass for the Outlaws. job helping to contain the Falcons’ run game. Zach Morgan had another good night for Sisters and was critical in helping the Outlaws win the field-posi- tion battle. Thorson said, “This was a very good win for us, and the team showed some grit in bouncing back from the loss to Cottage Grove last week. Our team this year lacks size, but no question that it makes up for that in speed, tech- nique, and just flat-out very hard play. “This team has a great practice work-ethic, and it pays off for them on Friday night. We have some young players in the program on the scout squad that bust their tails for the program, and they are contributing to our success in a big way.” Sisters will take on the Junction City Tigers at home in Sisters on Friday, October 14. The Outlaws are cur- rently 2-1 in league, and are 4-2 overall. How Safe is Botox? Learn some surprising answers and alternatives for wrinkle reduction.
