Wednesday, September 28, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 11 Equine Anderson will hold audience rapt with raptors Outreach hosts ‘Haydown’ By Sue Stafford Correspondent Folks in Sisters Country can help their horsey pals by attending the Equine Outreach Horse Rescue 2nd Annual Harvest Haydown. The event is a fundraiser for the horses and will help to cover the costs of winter hay. Admission is by donation at the Saturday, October 1, event set for noon to 6 p.m. at the Equine Outreach Ranch, 63220 Silvis Rd., Bend. Sheriff Shane Nelson will discuss animal law and the work being done by Deschutes County. Retired veterinarian Dr. Larry Dresher will answer ques- tions about animal care. There will be some- thing fun for everyone: kids’ activities, pony cart rides, face painting, horse demos, live music by Riley’s Range Benders and Appaloosa, food by Rico’s Tacos, Worthy Brewing beer, Tumalo Cider Co. hard cider, hay ride tours, a cake walk, Hank’s lucky lotto, artists/vendors, and silent auction items. The offi- cial greeter will be Hank, the big, friendly Clydesdale. On Friday afternoon, September 30, in the Sisters Library community room, the world of raptors will come alive when longtime local naturalist Jim Anderson shares his extensive knowl- edge with an illustrated forum on Oregon raptors. Starting at 1 p.m., the art- ists and photographers who have their work in the cur- rent raptor exhibit will be on hand in the community room to talk about how they created the images. Anderson will begin the raptor program at about 1:30 p.m. As Anderson shows pic- tures of the northern pygmy owl, the smallest of Oregon’s owls, the soaring owl, the largest, as well as soar- ing hawks, northern har- rier, osprey, accipiters (bird hawks), eagles, and vultures, the audience will be able to ask questions and make comments.
