Fourth Friday Art Stroll set for September 23 in Sisters
By Helen Schmidling
Correspondent
The Fourth Friday Art
Strolls continue this Friday
throughout the galleries in
Sisters. Come out and meet
our featured artists, share light
refreshments, and socialize
with your friends and neigh-
bors. Here is a lineup from
some featured galleries. Pick
up a new gallery walk map at
any gallery and get strolling.
Be sure to sign up for this
month’s quick draw. You can
register one time per gallery,
so the more galleries you visit,
the greater your chances of
winning. The prize this month
is a $100 gift certificate to
Kokanee Café, located in the
ponderosa pines of Camp
Sherman. This certificate must
be used by Oct. 16, Kokanee’s
closing date for the season.
Clearwater Gallery’s artist
opening will feature Randall
Tillery, a local plein air painter
who melds his love of nature
and landscape painting; and
Mark Davis, whose love of oil
paint lends itself to a relaxed,
impressionistic style.
Ken Scott’s Imagination
Gallery will present a rare
opportunity to meet Marjie
Scott, whose bronze castings,
steel wall sculpture, silver
jewelry, human portrai-
ture and mixed-media
abstracts are this month’s
feature. Ken will have a
new steel garden pergola
and a “muddle of mag-
nolias” in hammered
steel.
At Sisters Gallery and
Frame Shop, award-win-
ning scratchboard artist
Jennifer Hartwig will
show some of her new
work and work in prog-
ress. Dennis McGregor’s
original Sisters Folk
Festival painting, “Hot
Dogs,” is still available
as well.
At the Collection
Gallery, Gary Cooley
will present Sheryl
McCulloch’s fiber art.
McCulloch is a designer, knit-
ter, and weaver, whose creative
spark fired up after taking an
“alter-knit” class at Stitchin’
Post.
Next to Stitchin’ Post,
Twigs Gallery presents “From
the Forest,” a new fiber arts
show all about trees, featuring
the quilts of Sisters resident
June Jaeger.
Alpenhimmel will host
“The Waters of the Metolius,”
with the works of artist Stev
Ominski. These gorgeous,
luminous paintings take our
appreciation of the Metolius
River to new depths.
Hood Avenue Art’s featured
artists, from Sept. 20 through
Oct. 24, are pastel artist JoAnn
Burgess and raku potter Tina
Brockway. Burgess creates an
exciting journey of the senses
in her landscape paintings.
Brockway’s ability to trans-
form clay into a resounding
thing of beauty is unparalleled.
Studio Redfield is the home
to tables and tableware, hand-
crafted boxes, crows, ceramic
tile by Kathy Deggendorfer,
and colorful abstract paintings
by Randy Redfield.
At Sisters Art Works, the
Journey’s Art Quilt Group
is showing “Come To The
Edge,” a collection of original
artworks inspired by a poem of
the same name by Christopher
Logue. The show, which will
run through Nov. 15, includes
work by artists Catherine
Beard, Helen Brisson, Judy
Beaver, Sheila K. Finzer,
Betty Gientke, June Jaeger,
Jean Wells Keenan, Charlene
Kenny, Tonye Phillips, Donna
Rice, Martha Sanders, Marion
Shimoda, Mary Stiewig, and
Jean McBrien Tetzlaff.
Sisters Library has on
display a large collection
of raptor art, in conjunction
with an upcoming lecture
by Northwest Naturalist Jim
Anderson on September 30.
Other galleries open for
Fourth Friday Art Stroll
include Raven Makes Gallery,
Cha for the Finest, Jill Neal
Gallery, Beacham’s Clock
Co., Things Etc., Dyrk
