Sounding taps...
City awards community grants

Sisters City Council
has awarded their annual
Community Service Grants
to local nonprofits and
organizations.
For budget year 2016-
17, Council had earmarked
$20,000 to be used for
the grant program. At last
week’s Council meeting, they
awarded $16,700 to 14 orga-
nizations, holding $3,300 in
reserve for additional awards
throughout the remaining fis-
cal year.
Projects or programs must
meet one or more of the fol-
lowing criteria: provides
assistance for essential utili-
ties, food, clothing, or shel-
ter; provides educational or
recreational opportunities for
children or seniors; and/or
generates/supports economic
activity in Sisters.
This year’s awards went to
the following organizations:
Circle of Friends, $1,500;
Citizens4Community, $500;
Family Action Network,
$3,000; Habitat for Humanity,
$1,000; Heart of Oregon
Corps, $2,000; Heartwarmers,
$500; Rotary Club of
Sisters, $800; Seed-to-Table
Program, $1,000; Sisters
Community Garden, $500;
Sisters Folk Festival, $750;
Sisters Trails Alliance, $750;
SMART, $500; SPRD Youth
Scholarships, $2,500; SPRD
Seniors Scholarships, $900;
and VFW Post 8138, $500.
There were three appli-
cants that did not receive
grants and they will be pro-
vided information as to why
they didn’t. They will be eli-
gible to reapply with addi-
tional specific details as to
how the monies would be
used.
All requests totaled
$37,000.
