Deadline at hand for
stEM camp registration
Oregon STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering,
Mathematics) and Center
for Outreach In Science
and Engineering for Youth
(COSEY) are sponsoring
a two-day STEM Camp
on August 10-11 at Sisters
Elementary School. Students
must have completed grade 6,
7, or 8 to participate.
Ruth Jones, the Oregon
State University JUNTOS
Coordinator is working to fill
the few remaining spots for
this mobile camp.
“This should be a great
camp for middle schoolers,”
said Jones. “We are lucky to
be working with COSEY and
Oregon STEM to bring these
mobile camps to Sisters. I
look forward to filling this
camp!”
Thanks to funding by
the Oregon Engineering
and Technology Industry
Council and COSEY origi-
nally developed a library of
project-based activity kits
with a focus on engineering
and design skills related to
sustainability and “green”
technology. The activity kits
are rich with possibilities,
including a mock oil spill
activity in which students test
substances that can remove
oil from water, a wind energy
activity and solar car activity.
Curriculum is available for
K-12 Educators to use in the
classroom.
Since rural students have
fewer opportunities to experi-
ence hands-on STEM activi-
ties, mobile STEM camps,
like the upcoming Sisters
camp, were developed to
reach out to rural students
throughout Oregon.

these mobile camps to

filling this camp!
