Time for a hoedown...
Residents consider
calling for Uber, Lyft
BEND (AP) — Though
ridesharing has not yet rolled
into Central Oregon, some
residents are calling for the
service as an alternative to
long waits for transporta-
tion in Bend and surrounding
cities.
The Bulletin reports that
current regulations in Bend
covering taxi services would
conflict with services like
Uber and Lyft’s typical
way of operating, but City
Attorney Mary Winters says
city officials might be will-
ing to work with the compa-
nies if they were interested in
expanding to the area.
Transportation officials
in the city say it’s unclear
if rideshare services would
have consistent clientele in
the city, as the demand for
taxis and shuttles fluctuates.
Taxis of Bend owner
Randy Mahaney says big
events can cause hour-long
waits for cabs, but often other
times it isn’t too busy.
Bend woman pleads
guilty to manslaughter
BEND (AP) — A Bend
woman has admitted to reck-
lessly killing her 92-year-old
grandmother on New Year’s
Eve.
The Bulletin reports that
45-year-old Angela Judd
pleaded guilty to second-
degree manslaughter in
Deschutes County Circuit
Court Friday as part of a plea
deal reached with prosecu-
tors. She was initially charged
with murder and her trial was
set to begin next week.
Prosecutors accused Judd
of smothering Nada Bodholdt
with a pillow in the nursing
home where the grandmother
was living.
Bodholdt was initially
thought to have died of nat-
ural causes. The possibil-
ity of foul play only arose
when Judd allegedly made
a statement to her social
worker.
She faces a minimum 75
months in prison when she is
sentenced July 28.
