4 Wednesday, July 13, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Entrepreneur opens storage facility Obituary Jessica leslie Simonich November 17, 1978 — July 2, 2016 By Jim Cornelius News Editor Jon Rumgay saw a need in Sisters, and he set about fill- ing it. Sisters Self Storage is now open in the Sisters Industrial Park along Barclay Drive, offering 214 units ranging in size from five-by-five feet on up to 15-by-50-foot motorhome storage units — which are highly desirable in Sisters Country. Rumgay’s road to opening a storage facility reflects the classic entrepreneur’s light- bulb moment: He and his family needed storage and there was nothing to be found in a community that has filled up the available space. “We tried to get one and we were on a waiting list,” he said. “And then (we) decided to build one.” It was a major undertak- ing for Sisters. With land, Rumgay puts the price tag on the project at about $2.2 million. Kevin Spencer and Empire Construction built the facil- ity with financing through photo by Jim cornelius Jon rumgay and angela Crippens at the new Sisters Self Storage. Summit Bank. That’s a big investment in Sisters — but one that Rumgay, who is also the lead salesman at Sisters’ Best Vue Blinds — is comfortable making. “I live here and I own property here,” he said. “I plan on staying here forever.” The 4.3-acre facility offers room for an additional 80 units, should the market sup- port them. Given the immedi- ate demand — with some 80 units taken right away — it is likely that it will. Outdoor storage park- ing for boats and RVs is still available, though filling quickly. Angela Crippens is the on-site manager for Sisters Self Storage. She lives on the property and is available to help new customers obtain their unit. The facility, which is accessible till 10 p.m., has 24-hour security. Rumgay noted that the facility features additional brickwork and trees, beyond what is required, in an effort to make the facility as visu- ally pleasing as possible for the community.
