Quilt Show announces event details
Sisters Outdoor Quilts
Show (SOQS) announces
sponsors and event details
for the 41st annual Quilt
Show which will take place
Saturday, July 9, with events,
workshops and activities dur-
ing quilt week, July 3-10,
2016.
“Infinite Stitches” is the
theme of this year’s show
and the 2016 poster, cre-
ated by Sisters artist Kathy
Deggendorfer.
The 41st annual event is
presented by Robert Kaufman
Fabrics. Robert Kaufman Co,
Inc. is a converter of quilt-
ing fabrics and textiles for
retailers and manufactur-
ers. Kaufman Co. is a fabric
supplier to many industries,
including retail and quilting,
home decor, bridal, uniforms,
and the apparel industry.
“As a family-run business,
we feel drawn to this kind of
unique community event,”
said Ken Kaufman, CEO.
“Sisters Quilt Show brings
the entire community together
like one big family, to cel-
ebrate the artistry, heritage,
and creativity of fiber arts
and quilting. Once again, we
are proud to be the presenting
sponsor of the Sisters Outdoor
Quilt Show.”
Additional leadership sup-
port has been received from
The Roundhouse Foundation.
“Over the past four decades
the annual Quilt Show and
activities has grown to impact
all of Central Oregon, bring-
ing visitors from all 50 states
and 27 foreign countries. The
significant contributions of
Robert Kaufman Fabrics and
The Roundhouse Foundation
both recognizes the size
and scope of our efforts and
allows the show to reach new
audiences,” said Jean Wells
Keenan, SOQS chair emeritus
and founder.
Sisters Outdoor Quilt
Show is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
The sales of quilts with the
official Sisters Outdoor Quilt
Show tag on them helps sup-
port the production of the free
event. Together with commu-
nity partners such as the high
school athletic teams, services
clubs, and other nonprofit
organizations, SOQS annu-
ally raises funds and donates
back an average of $8,000 to
the community – money that
helps youth athletes, local
scholarship funds, and com-
munity organizations.
The world’s largest out-
door quilt show will display
more than 1,200 quilts on
Quilt Show Day, Saturday,
July 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

a Men Behind the Quilts calendar autograph party is on the schedule.
5:30 p.m SOQS hosts the
annual fundraiser featuring
the third Men Behind the
Quilts Calendar Preview Party
and Calendar Quilt Auction,
presented by Moda Fabrics.
Community-minded men are
models in a 12-month 2017
calendar. These men who vol-
unteer their time and donate
equipment and expertise to
the local community are fea-
tured along with gorgeous
quilts. Those who attend this
ticketed event can purchase
their calendar at a discounted
rate and have the models
autograph it for them.
“We will auction off the
gorgeous quilts donated for
the calendar. Proceeds from
the calendar and the calendar
quilt auction help underwrite
the cost of producing the
world’s largest outdoor quilt
show,” Pilak said.

BEND (AP) — State
regulators are warning that
double digit rate increases for
most health insurance car-
riers are on the horizon for
2017.
The Bend Bulletin reports
that the Oregon Department
of Consumer and Business
Services released prelimi-
nary decisions Friday regard-
ing next year’s premium rate
changes.
Health Net requested
no rate change for 2017.
However, the state says it
wants to see a nearly 10 per-
cent rate hike.
According to state offi-
cials, rate increases are
necessary to keep carriers
from withdrawing from the
market. For the past few
years, rate hikes have been
approved because carriers
have lost more money on
paying out claims than col-
lecting revenue from policy
rates.
In 2015, carriers lost $217
million because policy rates
were too low to cover the cost
of claims.
The state will final-
ize the rates set July 1,
2017.
