Seven Outlaws selected for all-league baseball teams
By Rongi Yost
Correspondent
The Outlaws had seven
baseball players selected to
all-league teams this year,
with Ryan Cook and Ryan
Funk leading the way as first-
team picks.
Ryan Cook was selected
first-team all-league pitcher,
and finished league 4-0 with
a 1.88 ERA (earned run aver-
age). Cook was a big hitter
for the Outlaws, and batted at
the No. 5 spot. He recorded
14 RBI and had a .320 batting
average.
“This guy (Cook) wasn’t
even in the starting pitching
rotation last year, and so to
come this far and be selected
first-team is a big accom-
plishment,” said Coach Steve
Hodges. “He’s made big
strides, and was a big contrib-
utor on the team this year.”
Ryan Funk was named
first-team catcher, and
according to Hodges is the
best catcher in the league.
Funk batted clean-up hitter
for the Outlaws, had a batting
average of .385, and recorded
14 RBI.
“Ryan has great defensive
skills,” said Hodges. “He
works hard to block balls,
keeps the ball in front of him,
and has a strong arm.”
Alec Gannon, Zach
Morgan, Christopher Luz,
Jake Larson and JW Bertagna
were all second-team
selections.
Gannon was named sec-
ond-team infield. Alec is a
very smooth infielder and
played second base. He was
the Outlaws leadoff hitter
and batted .348 during league
play.
This guy (Cook) wasn’t
even in the starting
pitching rotation last
year, and so to come
this far and be selected
first team is a big
accomplishment.
— Coach Steve Hodges
“Alec has good instincts
and good hands, and is also
a good base-stealer,” said
Hodges. “He can handle the
bat, and he can bunt. He’s
a very versatile player, and
in our last double-header he
played five different posi-
tions for us; second, pitcher,
shortstop, and left and center
field.”
Morgan was named sec-
ond-team all-league pitcher,
and had an ERA of 3.9. Zach

had 11 RBI during league and
a batting average of .256.
“When Zach is healthy
he’s a very dominant pitcher,
but this year he wasn’t always
healthy,” stated Hodges.
“When he’s on, he’s a pres-
ence on the mound and a
power-pitcher with speeds up
to 80 mph.”
Luz was named second-
team infielder, and played
shortstop for the Outlaws.
“Christopher was selected
because he has good hands
and a very good glove,” said
Hodges. “He was a consistent
fielder all season long, and
he’s also a good bunter.”
Larson earned second-
team all-league outfield, and
played center field for Sisters.
Jake had a batting average of
.289.
“Jake was very steady
all year,” said Hodges. “He
has good reads on the base-
ball, and he knows where to
throw the ball once he gets
it. He’s a smart player, and
I’m happy he was selected as
second-team.”
JW Bertagna rounded out
the all-league picks. Bertagna
was named second-team all-
league outfielder. JW played
at left field and at first base,
had a batting average of .333,
and recorded 11 RBI for the
Outlaws.
“JW really developed
this season, and made huge
strides from last year to this
year” said Hodges. “He prac-
tices hard every day and his
hard work paid off. He was
a big contributor to the team
this year.”
