Lamont to depart Sisters job
Harp ensemble plays for

After years of serving the
Sisters School District as an
elementary school teacher,
Mark Lamont has tendered
his resignation.
Lamont started his teach-
ing career in Sisters 24 years
ago. With a few brief breaks
he has taught in this district
for 21 years.
He started teaching sixth-
grade science and social stud-
ies in what is now the admin-
istration building. Then, as a
homeroom teacher, he taught
fourth, fifth, first and second
grades, then kindergarten.
Lamont has taught all pri-
mary grades as a P.E. teacher.
“I love the smiles on all
the faces in P.E.,” he said.
“Everybody is successful al-
most every day. That may
not be the case in classes like
math or reading.”
Lamont is hoping to travel
and continue working with
his nonprofit, Ten Friends,
in Nepal. He has taken more
than 16 trips to the country
over the past several years.
“I will potentially stay
through the fall on this trip,”
he said. “It’s been my goal
and dream to build an orphan-
age over there.”
The 23 kids and several
adults in the orphanage Ten
Friends supports currently
live in a building where they
pay rent, which is covered
mainly through donations.
Lamont hopes that on this trip
he will be able to help con-
struct and finalize a building
they can call their own.
In addition to his plans to
return to Nepal he also hopes
to travel through South and
Latin America. While he has
many dreams to travel, he

says he is not finished work-
ing in education.
“This (Sisters) has been
such a positive experience in
my life,” Lamont said. “I’m
not leaving for anything nega-
tive. I love the school district,
this community and staff. I
doubt when I move on I will
find a place of its equal, its
high quality.
“I need to move on,” he
said. “Balance and variety
are important. Sometimes
that means moving on from
