EUGENE, Ore. – Marissa Young of Sisters High School has been awarded The Ford Family Foundation Scholarship. The Ford Family Foundation selected 106 students from Oregon. This year’s Ford Scholars were chosen from 6,049 applicants. Eligibility criteria include financial need and merit qual- ifications. In addition, schol- ars must attend an accredited, nonprofit college in their home state and be pursu- ing a bachelor’s degree full- time. The renewable schol- arship covers 90 percent of each student’s unmet finan- cial need for each academic year. Since 1994, the Foundation’s scholarship pro- grams have awarded students more than $157 million. Kenneth W. Ford built his company, Roseburg Forest Products Co., into one of the largest privately held companies in the United States. He established The Ford Family Foundation in 1957 after the business had experienced two decades of growth. Ford created the scholar- ship program to help students who would otherwise find it difficult to obtain a col- lege degree without financial assistance.
