Volunteers have been
movingequipmentoutofthe
CloverdaleRoadfirestation
inpreparationforthestartof
constructionofanewfiresta-
tionapparatusbuilding.
Financedbybondfunding,
the new building will allow
foralargertrainingroom,and
theabilitytoparkalltrucks
side-by-sidebehindindivid-
ualdoors.Thiswillallowfor
afasterresponsebythewater
tenders, which have been
parkedbehindotherapparatus
intheoldbuildingforyears.
Italsocreatesasaferenviron-
mentforfirefighters.
The new building will
sport wider and taller doors
for the trucks, allowing for
faster egress during emer-
gencies, and room for the
newlargerenginesthathave
been ordered. With more
space around the trucks the
firefighters will be able to
change into their protective
clothingandboardthetrucks
morequicklyoncetheyreach
the station, as there will be
sufficient room around the
apparatus.
On Saturday, April 9,
the last pieces of equip-
ment,ahosestoragerack,a
set of lockers, two dressing
benches, and other assorted
equipment were moved out
ofthestationandplacedinto
storage.
OnMonday,April11,the
Sisters Rodeo Association
was scheduled to begin
the process of jacking up
the building in preparation
of moving it to the rodeo
groundsonHighway20.This
re-purposingofthebuilding
willsavetheCloverdaleFire
District the cost of demoli-
tionanddebrisremovalprior
to construction of the new
building.
Constructionisscheduled
tostartonApril24,bythebid-
winning contractor, Griffin
Construction of Prineville.
The projected completion
dateisfallof2016.
SistersSchoolDistrictwill
host a screening of “Paper
Tigers,”afilmthatcaptures
thepain,danger,beauty,and
hopesofstrugglingteensand
teachersarmedwithnewsci-
ence and fresh approaches
thatarechanginglivesforthe
betters.
Thedocumentary,directed
by James Redford and pro-
duced by Karen Pritzker,
willbeshownatSistersHigh
SchoolauditoriumonFriday,
April22,at6:30p.m.Thisisa
freeeventopentothepublic.

Doors will open at 6
p.m.;lightrefreshmentswill
be offered and there will be
information on available
resourcesfromlocalservice
agencies.
“Paper Tigers” follows
a year in the life at Lincoln
Alternative High School in
Walla Walla, Washington,
whichhasradicallychanged
its approach to disciplin-
ingstudents,andinthepro-
cess has become a promis-
ing model for how to break
the cycle of poverty, vio-
lence,anddiseasethataffect
families.
Thefilmfollowssixtrou-
bledteensoverthecourseof
one year.The students were
considered drop-outs with a
history of behavioral prob-
lems, violence, truancy, and
substanceabuse.
With the motto “stressed
brains can’t learn” Lincoln
HighSchoolprincipalinvited
hisstaffandstudentstolearn
about Adverse Childhood
Experiences Study which
shows that stressful events
duringchildhoodlikedivorce,
domesticviolence,andmen-
talillnessincreasestheriskof
