Baseball team defeats White Buffs
Are you looking for a new
twist for a Mother’s Day cel-
ebration this year?
Oregon State University
Extension Service is offering
a workshop where partici-
pants will learn how to make
safe, home-canned lemon
curd, lemon poppy-seed
scones, and soft-whipped
cream. Adults registered
will work in small groups to
make and can lemon curd and
review water-bath canning
procedures. Each person will
learn tips on baking at high
altitude and make their own
batch of scones.
Gluten-free ingredients
will be available, for those
interested. At the end of the
session, tea will be brewed
The Outlaws wrapped up
pre-season play with a 6-4
win over the White Buffaloes
at Madras on Friday, April 1.
Sisters scored three runs in
the fourth inning to take a 4-1
lead, and held onto the lead to
the end. The Outlaws added
an important run in the top of
the seventh for a great finish.
Coach Steve Hodges
explained, “We had a run-
ner at first and third with two
outs. We ran an early release
play at first and drew the ball,
and our third-base runner
(Jake Larson) came home.
“That play shows the
team is beginning to play
with intelligence, and they’re
utilizing the ingredients to
put together a win. The win
today was a good confidence-
builder. To play in a close
game and get a win is an
important step, especially as
we look to start conference.”
Sisters played a good
defensive game with only
one error in the contest.
The outfield defense, Alec
Gannon, Jake Larson, and
Jake Stevens, made many
great plays in the field for the
Outlaws.
Ryan Cook was the
Outlaws’ winning pitcher,
and Ryan Funk earned the
save.
Zach Morgan was the
Outlaws’ big hitter and went
two-for-two, with a double
and an RBI.
Earlier in the week, on
and scones with lemon curd
and whipped cream sam-
pled at the high tea party.
Everyone will take home a jar
of canned lemon curd, their
scones, and recipes.
Two sessions of this pub-
lic workshop will be on
Thursday, April 28 at 9 a.m.
to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. at the
OSU Extension/Deschutes
County office in Redmond
(at the fairgrounds, Parking
Lot D). The lab fee for the
class is $12. The sessions will
be taught by OSU Extension
Educator Glenda Hyde,
assisted by OSU Extension
master food preservers.
Register by calling 541-
548-6088 by Monday, April
25. Class size is limited.
