plays benefit in Bend

Murphey and his Rio Grande
Band will play a benefit con-
cert for Lake County resident
Andy Rieber, on April 10, at
the historic Tower Theatre in
downtown Bend.
Rieber has been fighting
with an increasingly debili-
tating case of Lyme disease,
and the benefit will help sup-
port her ongoing treatment
and recovery. Murphey will
also be playing two addi-
tional benefits for Rieber, in
Lakeview at the Elks Lodge
April 8, and in Pendleton
at the Slickfork Saloon on
April 9.
A multiple Grammy nomi-
nee and Western Music Hall
of Fame singer-songwriter,
Murphey has captivated fans
for years with his ability to
render the iconic images and
stories of the American West
with his music.
Best known for his hugely
successful revival of tradi-
tional cowboy songs and for
country-crossover mega-hits
like “Wildfire,” “Carolina
in the Pines,” and “What’s
Forever For,” Murphey’s pio-
neering approach to Western
music defies easy classifica-
tion. But while Murphey’s
music bucks obvious ste-
reotypes, his songs deliver
something infinitely more
satisfying — soulful, evoca-
tive, foot-stompingly good
music steeped in the history
and traditions of the West.
Murphey’s Oregon benefit
tour comes just days before
the release of his much-antic-
ipated latest album—“High
Stakes: Cowboy Songs VII”
— a tribute to the beauties
and hardships of the lives of

working cattle ranchers. As a
rare treat, “Murph” will give
concertgoers a pre-release
sampling of his new songs
in the intimate setting of the
Tower Theatre, known as
“Bend’s Living Room.” The
concert will be preceded by
the auction of an autographed
Michael Martin Murphey
guitar.
Rieber is well known in
the Oregon ranching commu-
nity, and has worked for years
as a journalist and consultant,
telling the story of Oregon’s
ranchers to the wider public.
The benefit is being produced
by Murphey’s nonprofit foun-
dation, Murphey Western
Institute — a center for the
education, preservation, and
perpetuation of the arts, cul-
ture, history and legacy of the
American West.
The Tower Theatre is
located at 835 N.W. Wall St.,
Bend. Concert starts at 7 p.m.
