Kiwanis awards career scholarship
Sisters salutes...
Linda Peck, a Sisters resi-
dent, was recently awarded a
Kiwanis Career Opportunity
Fund (COF) scholarship. The
fund assists local adults (25
or older) who are financially
unable to return to school or
retrain for a career change.
Peck’s COF scholarship
allows her to enroll in weld-
ing classes at COCC.
Linda recently started
a business building out-
door solar lamps from dis-
carded metal pieces such
as wheels, gears and sheet
metal. She dubs her creations
“Spectacular Solar Lamps”
and will sell the lamps in
Sisters businesses and street
fairs.
Peck brought some lamps
when she accepted her award
at the Sisters Kiwanis meet-
ing; Kiwanians agreed — the
lamps are spectacular.
The Kiwanis Career
Opportunity Fund provides
financial assistance to start,
augment or complete a career
that may include vocational,
technical, artistic or gen-
eral fields of study. Funds
are available to qualified
residents within the Sisters
area regardless of age, gen-
der, disability, marital status,
race or current occupation.
Kiwanis does not set limita-
tions on potential use of the
award. Since its inception,
the fund has awarded more
than $30,000 in assistance to
help 20 Sisters area residents

I would like to give a
long-overdue salute to our
local library and all of the
helpful, knowledgeable and
friendly people who work
there.
Over the years, our fam-
ily of five has gratefully
taken full advantage of the
books, music, and mov-
ies that our branch has to
offer.
Extremely well organized
and efficient, the Sisters
Library is a great public
service run by equally great
people.
