Karen passed away unexpectedly
in a car accident on December 23,
2015, near Sisters.
She was an amazing mother, a
loving wife, a wonderful grand-
mother, and a special sister.
Karen was born with her twin sis-
ter, Sharon, on June 15, 1941 to Fred
Ryan and Irene Martin in Newberg,
Oregon. She attended Sisters High
School, where she met her husband
Leonard. They were married on
August 27, 1960, in a double wed-
ding with her twin sister. Karen and
Leonard spent 23 years in the mili-
tary, living in many places in the
U.S. and overseas. Following retire-
ment, they built their dream home
near Sisters, which has an incredible
view of her favorite mountains.
Karen loved spending time with
her granddaughters, and her fam-
ily and friends. She loved traveling,
shopping, playing golf with her hus-
band and sister. She loved the sound
of the ocean and made many trips to
the beach and various casinos.
Karen is survived by her husband
Mary Ann DeGaetano of Sisters
passed away peacefully on March
4, at St. Charles Medical Center in
Bend. She was 86.
Mary was born March 7, 1929,
in Brooklyn, New York, to Jack and
Sara (Patero) DiSalvo. In 1951, she
married her high school sweetheart,
Benny DeGaetano. Immediately
after getting married, she and Benny
left Brooklyn and traveled across
the country, landing at Edwards Air
Force Base in the Mojave Desert.
Mary was a military wife, sup-
porting her husband and his career
in the Air Force, traveling through-
out the United States and Japan.
Upon Benny’s retirement from the
Air Force, she and Benny moved
to Sisters and started the MB Cattle
Ranch.
Mary was a devoted mother to
her two sons, and as their families
grew, her love grew along with them.
Her family knew they could always
drop in and be treated to an authentic
Italian feast with take-home goodies
for the road. This was just a small
of 55 years, Leonard Langeliers;
her daughters Kristi, LeAnn, and
Lisa Langeliers; her granddaugh-
ters Isabel, Ava, and Josephine
Fries; son-in-law Casey Fries; sis-
ters Sharon Nesbitt and Marlene
Glasgow; and brother Doug Cole.
Karen had a beautiful smile, a
sparkle in her eyes and a contagious
laugh. She will be greatly missed,
and will always remain in the hearts
of those who knew and loved her.
A memorial service and celebration
of her life will be held on Saturday,
April 2, at 2 p.m. at The Episcopal
Church of the Transfiguration in
Sisters, 68825 Brooks Camp Rd.
example of Mary’s true spirit of
giving.
Mary was an active member of St.
Edward the Martyr Catholic Church
in Sisters and always shared with her
family the joy she got from the Alter
Society at St. Edward’s.

Benny DeGaetano of Sisters; eldest
son, John (wife Virginia) DeGaetano
of Salem; younger son, Jim (wife
