Geoffrey Glenn Pepperling
Florence “Shirley” Beck
July 22, 1967 — February 29, 2016

On the morning of
Monday, February 29, 2016,
after battling pancreatic can-
cer for over a year, Geoff
passed away due to compli-
cations resulting from the
disease. He was 48 years
old.
He was born on July 22,
1967 in Bend. He was the
middle child of Gary Wayne
Pepperling, Sr. and Diana
Carrie Pepperling.
Geoff grew up in Sisters
and enjoyed the carefree
childhood of small-town life.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing,
and camping in the woods
with friends and family.
He remained in Sisters
where he could be close
to family. He preferred
a simple life without the
complications of material
things. He was a cook at The
Gallery, where he took pride
in his soups, gravies, and the
pizzas he would make for
his co-workers.
He had a thirst for knowl-
edge and was known to
watch a lot of the History
Channel or Discovery
Channel, especially if it was
a documentary on World
War II. He was full of infor-
mation and was the “go-to”
guy if you had a trivia ques-
tion. He enjoyed having
heated debates with people,
mostly about
religion.
On Decem-
ber 6, 1994,
his daughter
Natasha Renee
Pepperling was
born. She was
the light of
his life and he
strived to be a good father
and to make sure she knew
how much he loved her.
Because he had chosen a
simpler life, he was available
to help family when needed.
He had time to spend with
his daughter, provide child-
care for his nephews, be a
traveling companion for his
mother and help care for his
father, who also had pancre-
atic cancer.
He enjoyed wildlife and
road trips. Due to the gen-
erosity and support of the
community, he was able to
go on a 10-day road trip to
Yellowstone, Colorado, and
Utah with his family while
he was still strong. He was
always amazed by — and
grateful to — all the peo-
ple who encouraged him
through his battle.
His father, Gary Wayne
Pepperling, precedes him in
death.
Geoff is survived by
his daughter, Natasha; his

A celebration of life
and potluck dinner will be
held on Saturday, April 2,
at 4:30 p.m. at The Pines
Clubhouse, 612 Brooks
Camp Rd., Sisters.
Shirley Beck, 85, died
February 16 at her home in
Sublimity.
She was born in Swea
City, Iowa, to Merle and
Dorothy Robinson and lived
in Minnesota as a child,
graduating from Brookston
High School as valedicto-
rian. She married William
“Bill” Beck on March 15,
1952, in Duluth, Minnesota.
Shirley worked as an
accounting clerk at an
insurance company and at
California State University,
Northridge. Shirley was a
very devoted mother and
grandmother and enjoyed
sending cards for birthdays,
holidays, and anniversaries
with significant words or
phrases underlined.
She also enjoyed camp-
ing, horses, dogs, and any-
thing done with her fam-
ily. She was a wonderful
cook (especially banana
nut bread), entertainer, and
loved hosting her family
and friends. Shirley and
Bill moved to their beloved
log home outside of Sisters
in 1989 (heaven on earth)
until moving to Sublimity in
2015.
She is survived by her
husband, William H. of
Sublimity; children, Robin
(Gary) Hedrick of Grants
Pass and William J. Beck
(Sharon) of Stayton; four
grandchildren: Scott (Val)
Hedrick of Klamath Falls,
William C. Beck (Corinne)
of Houston, Texas, Laura
Murray of Keizer and Karen
(Elliott) Ramos of Tualatin;
great-grandchildren: Katelyn
and Eli Hedrick, Julie
Murray, and baby Beck due
at the end of May.
Shirley was preceded
in death by three brothers.
Private family services have
been held.
