• Clarification on last
week’s Snapshot regarding the
Transient Room Tax (TRT):
The current TRT on over-
night lodging is eight percent,
which is split 50-50 between
the City and the Chamber of
Commerce. Council is con-
sidering increasing the overall
TRT to 9.99 percent, with one
percent going to the State.
The remaining .99 per-
cent increase would be split,
as required by law, with 70
percent going to the Chamber
and 30 percent to the City. The
original eight percent remains
as a 50-50 split. The City’s
additional 30 percent (esti-
mated to be around $25,000)
is the amount Council is
considering earmarking for
an affordable housing trust.

Life-saving app now
available in Sisters
Sisters-Camp Sherman
Rural Fire Protection District
has announced the availabil-
ity of the PulsePoint mobile
application in Sisters Country.
Once the free application is
downloaded, users will be
notified if there is someone
suffering from a sudden car-
diac arrest within a half-mile
of their location.
The application will also
notify the public where the
nearest automatic external
defibrillator is located. The
hope is that people will begin
CPR more quickly prior to the
arrival of paramedics. Fire
Chief Roger Johnson said,
“Every minute saved is criti-
cal during a sudden cardiac
arrest event. If someone is
doing CPR prior to the arrival
of firefighter paramedics the
chances of survival greatly
increase”.
The Deschutes County 911
Service District was instru-
mental in bringing PulsePoint
to Sisters. The program cost
around $20,000 to launch
countywide. The program
interfaces with the 911 center
computer aided dispatch sys-
tem and the 911 call is sent to
PulsePoint subscribers at the
same time it is sent to emer-
gency responders. PulsePoint
also allows people to receive
other types of 911 notifications
to their phone including fire
calls and vehicle accidents.

High Desert Chorale swings into spring

If you enjoy the sounds
of the Sisters High Desert
Chorale, you may want to
mark April 29 and May 1 on
your calendar. Those are the
dates of the first 2016 per-
formance of the chorale at
Sisters Community Church.
Rehearsals for the cho-
rale are held each Monday
evening from 6:30 to 8:30
p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills
Lutheran Church, 386 N. Fir
St., and if you enjoy singing
and want to give yourself and
the chorale a boost, come
on down. There are singers
who have missed a couple of
years, but have just returned,
and most of them feel it as
like it as just yesterday they
were singing with their old
friends.

Soprano.
“There I was,” she said
the other night, “walking in
the obscured light of my twi-
light town, through the doors
of a familiar destination. I
was returning to the weekly
rehearsals for Sisters Chorale
after a hiatus of four years.
“Much has changed for me
since the last note I sang with
these enthusiastic beings, but
there has always been a smile
in my heart when I thought of
all of you. I even watched the
videos of the last time I was
able to participate in the glory
of expressing myself through
lyrical voice alongside you.
“As I arrived, which hap-
pened to be 31 minutes late
(last time that will happen), a
pool of smiling faces looked
up and acknowledged my
tardy return. I was promptly
welcomed and given sheet
music and a chair near the
other sopranos.
“As our fearless leader
directed on, I picked up the
right piece of music, a mira-
cle in itself, I began to sing
the first note of a Broadway
tune, and the time melted
