Locals train on shooter scenario The Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District hosted a three-hour active-shooter training session and table- top exercise for local emer- gency responders and school officials. Deschutes County Emergency Manager Sgt. Nathan Garibay delivered the training and facilitated the exercise. The exer- cise focused on coordi- nated response to potential acts of violence within the community. Seventeen people from 11 different public and private agencies attended the train- ing. Tours of Sisters High Obituary School and Sisters Middle School were offered after the training. Participants in the train- ing discussed agency-spe- cific operating policies and opportunities for further collaboration. Fire Chief Roger Johnson said, “One of the strengths of the community is how effec- tively emergency response agencies work together. There are five law-enforce- ment agencies and three fire districts that would immedi- ately respond to this type of incident.” Deschutes County 911 Service District and St. Charles Medical Center also would play a critical role in response and treat- ment of injured people. Representatives for both agencies also attended the training. Additional training exer- cises will be held in the future to allow agencies to further hone their skills. Future exercises likely will include practical sce- narios, which will allow for hands-on practice and coordination between pub- lic agencies and emergency responders.
