Foundation supports
student enrichment
The
Roundhouse
Foundation is supporting
Enrichment Scholarships for
Sisters students for the third
year through Sisters Graduate
R e s o u r c e O rg a n i z a t i o n
(GRO).
Scholarships are available
for students to participate
in a workshop, camp, class,
seminar or other fitting activ-
ity that suits the student’s
interest. The enrichment
opportunities are designed
to help students pursue their
interests in subject areas
that they may have interest
in after graduation. Students
are also encouraged to apply
for classes or workshops that
would assist them in making
a difference in the commu-
nity. Students from grades
9-12 are eligible to apply,
with the caveat that the expe-
rience happens prior to high
school graduation.
In the school year 2013-
2014, the first year the schol-
arships were offered, five
students participated in activ-
ities that ranged from a con-
vention in Washington, DC
for future business leaders
to flight instruction. The fol-
lowing year, seven students
were awarded scholarships
from student council leader-
ship camp to an animal sci-
ence program held at Cornell
University.
One two-year scholarship
recipient is senior Maggie
Bidasolo. Maggie received
two scholarships, one each
calendar year. After attend-
ing Oregon Association of
Student Council Leadership
Camp this past summer
she wrote in her exit essay
“This gift of support The
Roundhouse (Foundation)
has given me has both
changed and confirmed the
way I envision my future…
It confirmed I can suc-
ceed outside my comfort
zone and when thrown in
tough spots I will be able
to figure out something
positively.”
Scholarships are man-
aged and distributed through
Sisters GRO. The organi-
zation oversees the appli-
cation, recipient selec-
tion and disb u rsemen t
process. Applications are
accepted throughout the
year but must be received
no later than 30 days prior
to the experience or activ-
ity. Summer experiences are
encouraged, but all applica-
tions need to be in prior to
June 1.
There are some restric-
tions to enrichment activi-
ties that qualify, a complete
list can be found online at
www.SistersGro.org with
the application. A selec-
tion committee made up of
Sisters High School staff,
Sisters GRO board mem-
bers and community leaders
will determine recipients and
award amounts. All distribu-
tions will be made direct to
the sponsoring organization,
not to the individual student
or relative.

Heart of oregon helped out Habitat.
• Sisters Habitat for
Humanity would like to
thank the Heart of Oregon
crew that came out for
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
of Service to help us clean
and organize our storage
shed. Many items no lon-
ger needed were taken to
Sisters Habitat ReStore to be
sold.
The group of nine worked
for three hours to eliminate
clutter and reorganize the
remaining materials. The
end result is a much more
usable space. Thanks, Heart
of Oregon!
Quilt will help raise fire funds
Sisters Outdoor Quilt
Show and Stitchin’ Post
donated a quilt to the Sisters-
Camp Sherman RFPD to
assist them in raising funds
to help offset the costs of
security upgrades in their fire
stations.
“I was devastated to learn
that the Squaw Creek Fire
Hall had been burglarized of
equipment in November,”
said quilt show founder and
Stitchin’ Post co-owner Jean
Wells Keenan. “Those volun-
teer firefighters do so much
for our community all year
long. The quilt show board
and I wanted them to know
that we appreciate them and
all they do. Perhaps by raf-
fling off the quilt they can
raise some funds and be
secure in knowing that the
community supports them.”
“This hit so close to home,
literally,” said Valori Wells
Kennedy, SOQS board mem-
ber and co-owner of Stitchin’
Post. “I live blocks away from
the fire hall that was burglar-
ized. It’s a stab in the heart of
the community to have this
happen.”

operations, acknowledged
that the burglary is covered by
insurance, after a deductible.
“ We h o p e t h a t t h e
donated quilt will help raise
funds for this new need to
upgrade security for the fire
department,” said Jeanette
Pilak, Sisters Outdoor Quilt
Show executive direc-
tor. “More importantly, we
wanted to give back to the
firefighters who assist us
with safety on quilt show
day and who host a variety of
events and activities through-
out the year in support of our
community.”
The 78-by78-inch quilt is
named “In & Out,” a pattern
from Blue Underground kits.

mer to raise funds.
