encouraged by her positive outlook. I feel that
“yes” for life that she has whenever I read
her column, or even just have a moment for a
shared “hello” in passing.
I appreciate that you, The Nugget, include
her perspective regularly.
This is another example of what makes this
community special and builds connection.

For the holidays, my class
took a trip around town to
paint windows. I would like
to tell you a little more about
that trip. I really enjoyed
doing the painting and want
to thank the people who let
us paint their windows. That
was Martolli’s, Your Store,
and Stitchin’ Post.
I hope when people saw
our windows it brought a
smile to their face. My part-
ner was very kind and help-
ful. When we were painting
our window I could tell that
we both were having lots of
fun. We designed our win-
dow to put people in the holi-
day spirit. After everyone fin-
ished painting we had a hot
chocolate party at Barclay
Park. I will look forward to
seeing next year’s designs on
my way to the middle school.

Citizens4Community salutes
Sisters Country residents
who participated in last
week’s sessions with Rob
Karwath of the Speak Your
Peace Civility Project. The
level of attendance and
engagement to learn about
tools to encourage respectful
communication exceeded our
expectations!
C4C thanks Fire Chief
Johnson for providing the
meeting site and volunteers
Barbara Secrest and Toni
Landis for ensuring that
attendees had a comfort-
able and nourishing envi-
ronment to learn and inter-
act in. Thank you to Sisters
Coffee Company and Hop
N Brew for donating bev-
erages and snacks, and to
Sisters Folk Festival for
providing the amplifica-
tion system for the speaker.
Thank you to the many event
attendees who filled out a
feedback form to provide
Citizens4Community with
guidance on how to move
forward with the Speak Your
Peace project, as well as
for their encouragement for
C4C to provide additional
information and educational
resources to improve com-
munication at higher levels.
The engaging conversations
were inspiring and provided
hope to many. We are so
proud to call ourselves citi-
zens of Sisters Country.

Thank you, City of Sisters,
for hiring a local contrac-
tor to do the work on Hood
Avenue. Robinson and Owen
Construction has been a plea-
sure to work with!
They were in tune with
our operation and continu-
ally provided a viable gate-
way for customers to easily
access Ace Hardware! Thank
you, Casey Vantress, for the
constant communication and
thoughtfulness as the project
gets underway. Excellent job!

To the Editor:
I awoke about a week ago with a pulmo-
nary embolism in both lungs. I was saved by
the action of our great paramedics and also
some planning that made it easy to get to me
to take me to help.
Here is what I wrote to my friends as a
result.
Imagine that you woke this morning very
short of breath, realizing something very, very
bad was going on.
1. Could you reach your telephone from
your bed? Could you autodial 911 even if you
couldn’t talk?
2. Assuming you get the 911 operator on
the phone could you give him or her your
address and name.
3. While the operator is working to get help
to you, how do they get in your house? Break
the door down? Break out a window? Do you
want to be in the hospital one or more days
with your door or window open?
• Suggestion — One option is a keypad on
your garage door with an easy-to-remember
code. This worked for me.
• Suggestion — If you don’t want the
above options, buy one of those lock boxes
from Lowe’s or Home Depot that costs
about $35. It requires two screws to install
and allows you to leave a key inside. This
is great both for emergencies and for letting
guests into your home if you happen to be
away.
• Again you will need to have a three or
four-digit code to open this box. Place the
box in a very obvious position on your door
or garage frame. You don’t want emergency
personnel saying “now where the hell is that
box?”
4. I can’t say for sure that these measures
saved my life, but they sure made things hap-
pen a lot faster.
So be smart and plan ahead.

To the Editor:
Will the film “13 Hours: The Secret
Soldiers of Benghazi” cause millions of
uninformed viewers to finally realize the
self-serving corruption demonstrated by
this administration in the 2012 election
cycle; and supported by the “Obama doting”
press?
Although Hillary Clinton’s name is not
mentioned, her infamous “What difference
does it make?!” comment remains reprehen-
sible; and a revealing glimpse of her true
character.
The videos of Susan Rice rushing out
falsely blaming the attack on an obscure video
do not appear either, although mentioned.
For three long years Americans, especially
the families of those who lost loved ones, have
had to contend with continuous lies, cover-up,
and outrage that a tiny band of unbelievably
brave Americans was left to fight off a com-
pany of al-Qaida-linked terrorists for 13 hor-
rific hours.
Meanwhile the vast land, sea and air
resources of the U.S. military were not sent
to their rescue by this administration. Where
is the accountability? Where is the apol-
ogy to the affected families? Where was our
Commander-in-Chief?
What’s even more despicable has been the
ongoing lack of integrity demonstrated by the
liberal-biased press.
As we celebrate the birthday of Martin
Luther King, Jr. one can only hope that vot-
ers in the 2016 elections will make “content
of character” a primary attribute for selection
of our next leaders.
