City looks at cost of
public events in parks

Sisters City Council is
lookingathowmuchitactu-
ally costs the City of Sisters
wheneventsuseCityparks.
At last week’s workshop,
Council revisited the fee
schedule for public events
heldinSistersparks.Thisisa
discussionthathasbeenongo-
ing as part of the review of
licensingforpubliceventsand
transientmerchants.
Councilhaddirectedstaff
to analyze the actual costs
to the City, compared to the
existing fees being charged
applicantswhowishtoholda
publicevent,tobecertainthe
taxpayers are not underwrit-
ingthecostsofthoseevents.
Staffdeterminedthatthefees
werenotadequatelycovering
thecosts.
Thereareseveraldifferent
expensesconnectedtopublic
events held in the City. The
initialexpenseisforstafftime
toprocesstheapplicationsand
conductanyfollow-upinqui-
ries.Thelargestandmostevi-
dentactualcostisthatofthe
laborperformedbythepublic
worksstaffastheydoanynec-
essaryset-up,movingofexist-

asanticipated.
Asfallapproached,atmo-
sphericscientistswerewatch-
ingdevelopmentsinthetropi-
cal Pacific Ocean. A large
batchofunusuallywarmwater
hadmaterializedthatstretched
from the International Date
LineeastwardtoPeru.
Itwasasignalthatthefirst
ElNiñoinsixyearswasonits
way.Andifitmergedwiththe
warmblobsofwateralready
inplaceintheeasternPacific
whenitarrived,someforecast-
erswarnedthisElNiñomight
beawhopper.
ElNiñoisthewarmphase
of the El Niño Southern
Oscillation(ENSO)thatalters
weatherpatternsworldwide.It

The bike donation drive
initiated by Blazin Saddles
last month has succeeded
beyond the expectations of
organizerCaseyMeudt.

donations,”Meudtreported.

Sisters Fire Department,
Habitat and a few personal
recommendations we com-

inSistersthatwecouldhelp
bygivingthemabikeoverthe
holidays.Weareveryexcited
to announce that not only
wereweabletoprovideeach
andeveryonewithanicely
tuned-upbike,withwhatever
newpartstheyneeded,anda
bow!”
