Molalla came out strong in Thursday’s match-up and held a 3-0 lead at the half. Eight minutes into the second half the Outlaws got on the scoreboard. Olivia Watts had a corner kick that sailed into the box, and Nika Chick vol- leyed the ball with the inside of her foot and sent the ball straight into the back of the net. The Indians scored three more goals and earned the win. Molalla had some fast for- wards on their team and took advantage of their speed. The Indians finished with 27 shots on goal and Sisters had 11. Anna Ortega (defense), Nika Chick, and Michaela Miller (center-midfielders) all played a great game for the Outlaws. “Anna slowed down Molalla’s defenders very well and really contained them. It was perfect technique on her part. Both Nika and Michaela were really aggressive at win- ning the ball. They had tight combination passes to each other and some good penetrat- ing runs through the defense,” stated Coach Thomas Draxler. Draxler added, “We still need to work on playing as a team. The Lady Outlaws did play fairly well, and improved both their defense and their passing game. Taylor Schneider posi- tioned herself well at the center-defender position, and was able to direct the defense, and drop back to add depth to the defense. Lexi Martin also played a good game at mid-center. “Lexi was able to trap the ball from the goal-kick, and distribute the ball out to the wings,” said Draxler. After three tough pre-sea- son losses, Draxler told The Nugget he feels his team is ready for conference play. The losses have helped us understand how we need to play. I feel like we’re definitely ready for our first league game. — Thomas draxler “The losses have helped us understand how we need to play,” said Draxler. “I feel like we’re definitely ready for our first league game.” The Outlaws will kick off league play at home against Sweet Home on Thursday, September 17.
