“Luther Metke Revisited”
Volunteer for Parks Board
On the 130th anniversary of
the birth of Camp Sherman
poet laureate Luther Metke, a
special event on Wednesday,
August 26 begins at 1:30 p.m.
with a walk along the Luther
Metke Corridor from the Camp
Sherman Community Hall.
Following will be speakers

Sue Anderson, Kelly Cannon

The City of Sisters is accepting
applications for two volunteers:
one “out-of-city” and one “in-
city” for the Sisters City Parks
Advisory Board. The Board
advises the City Council on
matters pertaining to public
parks, trails and open spaces.
The board typically meets once
a month and consists of seven
(7) members. Applications can
be found at www.ci.sisters.or.us
or at Sisters City Hall, 520 E.
Cascade Ave. Applications are
due by 5 p.m. Friday, August

Susters Schools Schedule
Sisters public schools are
now open for new student
registration, Monday through
Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fi rst
day of school for grades 1-9 is
Monday, August 31; for grades
10-12 it’s Tuesday, September 1.
The fi rst day of kindergarten is
Tuesday, September 8. SES will
host “Stop & Drop,” Thursday,
August 27, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

CPR/AED & First Aid Class
Sisters-Camp Sherman RFPD
will offer the American Heart
Association “Heartsaver” First
Aid and CPR class on Saturday,
September 26 at the Sisters Fire
Hall. Cost is $10 ($15 if you
require the AHA certifi cation

Beginning Your Memoir
On Tuesday, September 1 from
noon to 4 p.m., author and
local educator Ellen Santasiero
presents a workshop at the
Sisters Library on writing a
short memoir. Learn how to
record your memories using
literary techniques. Free, but

Family Fun & Picnic
The community is invited
for family fun on Sunday,
September 13 from 2 to 5 p.m.
at St. Edward Catholic Church.

being offered by the Sisters Folk
Festival this year, Sept. 11-13:

Sunday, workshops with festival
performers from 12 to 4 p.m. at

12 to 10 p.m. and Sunday

community celebration at
Village Green Park on Sunday

“Smart Driver” Course
AARP will offer a driver safety
class at Black Butte Ranch on
Tuesday, September 22. The
class runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
with an hour break for lunch.
Cost is $15 for AARP members
and $20 for non-members.

SHS Freshman Oruentatuon
New-student orientation for
incoming freshmen (9th-graders)
is Monday, August 31, 7:45 a.m.
to 3 p.m. There will be small
group activities in the morning,
and after lunch students will
get their locker assignments
and run through a shortened
version of their daily schedule.
Bus routes will run morning
and afternoon; route times
are on the district website.

A 90th birthday celebration for
Alwyn Stockley will take place

Sisters Kiwanis is holding a 10K
run to benefi t service projects
and club scholarships. The race
up Black Butte on Saturday,

elevation gain and is limited

ROSALIND is verx sweet
3-xear-old pit bull mix whose
owner could no longer care for
her. She now eagerlx awaits her
forever home. Rosalind tends to
be a shx at fi rst, but warms up
verx quicklx. She rides well in a
car, walks on leash, and has lived
with other dogs and children as
xoung as 5. She does, however,
need a feline-free home. Come
