For the past four decades, the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show (SOQS) has splashed downtown Sisters in a riot of colored fabric, a display that draws fiber arts enthusiasts from around the world. The 2015 Quilt Show runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, all through downtown Sisters. The show itself is the culmination of a week of celebration that will be more special than ever this year. SOQS has special events planned for this year’s 40th anniversary. How do you throw a birthday party for a Quilt Show on its Ruby Anniversary? Quilts, music, singing, dancing and, of course, cake! On Wednesday, July 8, 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Sisters High School auditorium, quilters from across the nation and around the world will celebrate with special guests, the Quilters of Gee’s Bend and local musicians. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online or by calling 541-549- 0989. For this special 40th anniversary Quilt Show, SOQS teamed with Island Batik to shine a spotlight on the 29 quilters who have over the years in Sisters received special recognition as featured quilter, inspirational instructor, machine quilter of the year, or Quilt Show Sunday lecturer. Their work will be featured in a special exhibit. Quilt Show week kicks off on the first weekend in July with the 12th Annual Fiber Arts Stroll, noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 5. More than 20 fiber artists share their textile arts including quilts, weaving, basketry, fabric dying and much, much more. Maps will also be available for pickup at the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce, Stitchin’ Post, and at participating businesses after Friday, July 3. On Sunday, July 12, visit the FivePine campus at the east end of town for an outdoor display and quilting lecture by Tula Pink, presented by FreeSpirit Fabrics.
