Wednesday, June 10, 2015 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 19 Sisters salutes... • The Oregon Band of Brothers Sisters Chapter presented Kyle Harbick with an appreciation plaque at a recent meeting. The plaque states: “In appreciation for the opportunity afforded to the Oregon Band of Brothers Sisters Chapter, we thank you for the courtesies that have been extended to mem- bers and guests during this past year. Your food, service and willingness in helping us reach our goal ‘veterans helping veterans’ could not have happened had it not been for your great food, great service and under- standing. Your staff is to be complimented. Judy (Gillan) is the best. Thank you. The Sisters Band of Brothers meets every Wednesday at Takoda’s at 11:15 a.m. for lunch and fel- lowship. Anyone with prior or active military service is invited to come. • Gary and Cathy Pepperling: Wo r d s t r u l y c a n n o t express our gratitude to this community after recent heartbreaking events. I am humbled by the outpouring of support. The list is too long to include everyone but I must thank Kelsey Reznick, Nick Cristiano, Josh and Ashley Hixon for organiz- ing the Hardtails fundraiser for the family of Shemaiah Gillan. Of course this could not have taken place without Steve and Darcy Macey, owners of Hardtails Bar and Grill. They kindly offered use of their establishment, arranged entertainment along with very generous contributions. As Aubrey creates her path with their daughter Delaynie and new baby arriving later this year, she is honored by the support of her community, and love of her friends and family. • Tara Greaney wrote: I would like to recognize two amazing people working at Sisters High School. I am a junior marshal for the high school graduation this year and was able to see the prep- aration for graduation first- hand. Behind this celebration are two key figures. Year after year they have orga- nized hundreds of students to make graduation one of the most memorable events for not only the graduat- ing class but also the entire town of Sisters. I just wanted to take a moment to thank Suzanne Lind and Pinky Pagano for their tireless years of service to our stu- dents, our schools, and our community. • Bill Anttila, Commander, VFW Post 8138 wrote: On behalf of VFW Post 8138, I would like to thank the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire Department for going above and beyond their duty by assisting the VFW and American Legion members with the audience chairs during the Memorial Day Ceremony on May 25, 2015 at Village Green Park. Their continuing support of Sisters Veteran groups is highly appreciated. • A n d r e w L o s c u t o ff wrote: I worked as the vol- unteer coordinator (of Sisters Stampede Mountain Bike Race) this year and would like to give the community a sense of how many people banded together and helped out. We had around 30 vol- unteers doing everything from parking cars, to reg- istration, to cleaning up the course after the race. Without them, this event wouldn’t happen. Many came out and had a great time capturing the joy and passion of the mountain bik- ers and left being inspired to ride a little more themselves. Some even mentioned they were looking forward to entering as a participant this next year! • Art Buell wrote: Thank you to the city manager and work crew for making the turn at Locust Street and Main Avenue eas- ier to negotiate. Moving the one stanchion back several inches makes the right turn onto Main Ave. easier. Thanks, Andrew Gorayeb, for taking a suggestion and turning it into swift action. • Shannon Pollard wrote: The Sisters Elementary School Garden Club would like to thank everyone who was involved in help- ing make our 12th annual Garden Fair this last Saturday a success.
