Mathews, Tribune News Service photo by Jim cornelius ken Scott’s Imagination hosted a launch party for Sisters arts association. PARTy: Association launched with a gallery map of Sisters Continued from page 3 featured Brad Tisdel, Patrick Pearsall, and Jim Goodwin. SFF Managing Director Ann Richardson spoke to the broader significance of the arts community to the com- munity at large. “We all are here because we know and believe that a vibrant arts economy is super important for Sisters,” she said. She noted that major arts-related events — the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, the Sisters Folk Festival — bring many people to Sisters. However, she said, “Sisters Arts Association is going to bring people here every single day of the year. I see nothing but success for the Sisters Arts Association.” Dennis Schmidling, co- founder and vice president of SAA, unveiled the associa- tion’s first project — a map of Sisters galleries. “We have 19 galleries here,” he announced, to cheers from the crowd. The launch of SAA marks a milestone moment in Sisters’ evolution, Schmidling believes. “The fabric of this town is really changing,” he said. “We’re turning a new chapter in Sisters.” — Last Week’s Puzzle Solved — Sisters salutes... • Tracy Stout wrote: April found a great group of people working together in Sisters to make the dream of a community bike park start to take form. Sisters Park & Recreation District, working with Central Oregon Trails Association and Blazin Saddles, needed some help with building a foundation for the bike park and needed some rocks and dirt to make it start to happen. Sisters Trails Alliance members got together and provided the funding for a backhoe and dump-trailer rental. Christopher Humphreys volunteered hours of his time and the use of his pow- erful diesel truck, while Zach Jones showed great talent on the backhoe. Faith, Hope and Charity, a winery located on Lower Bridge Road near Terrebonne, kindly pro- vided the loan of another dump-trailer. Work started when Frazier Excavation brought over two large dump-truck-loads of rocks. After 11 hours of work loading, hauling and placing dirt, Sisters Trails Alliance was able to take 17 loads of dirt donated by Three Creeks Brewing Co. to help build something that will provide locals and tourists alike a wonderful educational and recreational spot to develop new skills and practice exist- ing ones as well. It’s wonderful when a community works together to make something positive happen. • Chuck Humphreys wrote: I was among those sad to see Hop N Bean close. In the less than two years it was open, Mandy and Phil created a warm and won- derful place in Sisters that somehow made everyone feel welcome. For those of us who went there, Hop N Bean touched our lives physically — a place to meet friends, to set up office, to hang out. More importantly, Mandy and Phil created an institution cut straight from the fabric of Sisters — one that constantly supported and gave back to our community. Whatever may take the place of Hop N Bean, and no mat- ter how great it may be, it will not be the same without Mandy and Phil. Thanks for all you gave to the rest of us in Sisters.
