Regional lacrosse teams
coming to Sisters
Lacrosse teams from across
the Pacific Northwest are set
to arrive in town for the Sisters
Annual Lacrosse Invitational
(SALI). Teams will begin
arriving on Friday evening
and stay through Sunday after-
noon, May 10.
The SALI tournament
draws teams primarily from
Oregon, but teams will also be
traveling from as far as Idaho
and Lake Tahoe. This premiere
event was first founded by the
Outlaws Lacrosse Club and is
being carried on by the club
and Sisters Park & Recreation
District (SPRD).

Gorayeb said, “Outlaws
Lacrosse and I love the fact
we can bring all these peo-
ple to Sisters for this eco-
nomic opportunity to gather
around lacrosse and sporting
competition.”
Seventy teams with an
average of 15-20 players,
along with their families,
provide a huge boost to the
Central Oregon economy.
To incentivize teams and
parents to stay at area resorts,
Black Butte Ranch and Eagle
Crest offered discounts to par-
ticipants of SALI. Black Butte
Ranch, often sponsoring many

Civil War, President
Lincoln coming
The Northwest Civil War
Council will present a full
Civil War reenactment at
House on Metolius Meadow,
Saturday and Sunday, May
16-17.
The reenactment and liv-
ing history camps include
more than 400 Civil War
reenactors presenting living
conditions and circumstances
of 1863, as well as battle
reenactments.
Noted Pacific Northwest
actor Steve Holgate, rec-
ognized as one of the best
Abraham Lincoln imperson-
ators on the West Coast, will
perform.

Sisters dancers compete in Portland
introduced Saturday, May 16,
at 1 p.m. He will give remarks
for about 20 minutes and
then take questions from the
audience. This “Town Hall”
format requires the public to
think of questions pertaining
to events of the 1850s-1860s.
Mr. Lincoln will tour the
camps and review the troops
as he so famously did 150
years ago.

acres of living history with
reenactors and characters in
period clothing and uniforms.

Sisters Dance Academy
took 13 dancers to com-
pete at the I Love Dance
Competition in Portland the
weekend of April 25.
This was the first year
the dance academy has had a
performance and competition
team and set high goals to
attend their first competition
this year.
The performance ensem-
ble includes two teams — the
Junior Ensemble (dancers
age 10-12) and the Senior
Ensemble (dancers age
12-15). Each group entered
one group number and they
also had four soloists com-
pete in different styles.
The soloists, Lexie Miller
(hip hop), Hope Beckwith
(second place, lyrical),
Olivia Bertagna (lyrical), and
Rachel Lilley (first place,
song and dance) performed
very well in their divisions.
The senior group (True
Duerden, Ashonte Hull,
Abi Manley and Makenna
Liddell) competed against six
other groups in their age divi-
sion and placed second in the
Variety Arts category.
The emotional nature
of their number caught the
judge’s attention. The title
of this piece, “Malala’s
Endeavor,” depicted the story
of Malala Yousafzai, the
youngest-ever Nobel Prize
laureate. When she was only
12 years old she survived a
shooting, targeted for actively
fighting for the opportunity
for education for everyone in
Pakistan.
The senior dancers’ piece
depicts this struggle and held
all in attendance captivated.
The junior group (Hope
Beckwith, Olivia Bertagna,
Brooklyn Liddell, Iris Diez,
Emma Farley, Bevyn Dyer,
Lexie Miller, Rachel Lilley
and Kailey Mannhalter)
competed against two other
groups in their age division
and placed second in the
Song and Dance category.
The big triumph of the week-
end was the junior team win-
ning the award for “Best
Musicality” overall, out of
