Girls lacrosse ends week with double-header

The Lady Outlaws
lacrosse players had three
big games this past week.
The squad started with a
15-10 loss against Corvallis
on Tuesday, April 14. Four
days later, Sisters played at
home in a double-header. The
Outlaws fell 17-6 in their first
game against West Salem
and then lost 17-9 against
Crescent Valley.
Sisters played a great
game against Corvallis on
Tuesday. The Spartans scored
two quick goals at the onset
and took a 2-0 lead.
With just over two and a
half minutes off the clock,
Langley Vogt answered back.
Vogt got a fast break right off
the draw, beat all defenders,
and hit a shot into the upper-
right corner of the net to
tighten the game to 2-1.
Two minutes later, Marissa
Young put a shot into the bot-
tom-right of the goal with an
assist from Jenny O’Connor.
Marissa made a cut, and beat
her defender to catch the pass
and score.
Sisters scored three more
goals in the first half; two
from Vogt, and one from
Katelyn Josten. One of
Vogt’s goals resulted from a
great assist from Emily Ford.
Ford was behind the goal on
the left side, cut in, threaded
the needle, and passed to
Langley, who was next to her
and open for the shot. Josten
scored on a fast break up the
left side.
The Outlaws finished the
first half with five goals, but
the Spartans were relent-
less, kept attacking the goal,
and at the half held a 10-5
advantage.
Vogt scored Sisters’ first
two goals of the second half,
and O’Connor scored with a
little over nine minutes left
on the clock.
The Outlaws scored their
final two goals in the last
three minutes of the game.
Corvallis scored five addi-
tional goals in the second half
to record the win.
The Outlaws lost both
their games on Saturday
against stiff competition.
West Salem racked up 10
goals in the first half of the
contest and Sisters was only
able to put in two, both from
Marissa Young. The Titans
added seven goals in the sec-
ond half, and Sisters had four.

added one. O’Connor’s final
goal came close to the end of
the game and was a beautiful
shot in the upper-left pocket
of the goal.
Sisters’ game against the
Raiders of Crescent Valley
was just as tough. At the half
the Outlaws were only down
8-6, but the Raiders stretched
their lead in the second half
to win by eight.
Bree Papworth played at
goalie against West Salem,
and Addy Baney played in
goal against Crescent Valley.
They both had nine total
saves against 26 shots on goal
for a 35-percent save-rate on
each game.
The Lady Outlaws
will play at home against
Corvallis on Saturday, April
25.
city to mark
Arbor Day
April 24
Trees are an essential part
of the unique character and
identity of Sisters, and this
year Sisters will be showing
appreciation for trees by cel-
ebrating Arbor Day, an event
that is recognized around the
world.
The City of Sisters will
be celebrating on Friday,
April 24, with a reading of
the Arbor Day proclamation
by a City Council member,
followed by a ceremonial
tree-planting.
The Arbor Day ceremony
will be held at 1:30 p.m. at
Clemens Park. Ms. Few’s
third- and fourth-grade class
will be planting trees with
the assistance from the City
of Sisters Public Works staff.
The City offers special thanks
to Bruce Rognlien, who
donated trees for the event.
