Program for families
with infants set
For the first time in years,
Together For Children will
focus on families with infants
in Sisters. A kick-off to
the new group will happen
Tuesday, April 14, from 9:30
to 10:30 a.m. at the Sisters
Park & Recreation building
next to Sisters High School.
It will continue for nine
weeks, giving parents and
their infants time to connect
with other families with chil-
dren in the same age group.
Information pertinent to the
first year of life will be shared,
along with discussion of con-
cerns and issues that arise.
Much is known about the
importance of the first three
years of a child’s life, a time
when rapid growth and devel-
opment take place. A young
child learns more during these
months than at any other time
of their lives. Crucial to this
is brain development and
relationship building, which
depends on the connections
created between parents and
infant during this period. The
more a parent knows about
expected growth and stages
the better prepared they are
to handle situations that
might arise. This Together
For Children group will aid
parents in understanding the
important role they play in the
life of their little one, while
creating a spontaneous fun
atmosphere where friendships
that can last for years develop
and flourish.
Parents will learn how
to communicate with their
infants, enjoy the fun of shar-
ing baby bounces, singing and
rhymes, learn what it means to
build a respectful relationship
and develop an understand-
ing of who they are as a par-
ent. All of this will take place
in a collegial atmosphere of
support.
Many parents of newborns
find themselves isolated from
friends and families due to the
demands of caring for a young
child. Together For Children
creates a bridge from feeling
alone and having a community
to depend upon. Sharing with
other parents and learning
they are experiencing many of
the same challenges is often
all that is needed to assure the
enjoyment of watching a child
develop during the first year.
The group is designed for
the non-walking youngster.
